I'm experiencing a problem in which, after starting up a game in dosbox, the mouse is stuck along the edge of the (dosbox) screen (That is, the top and the sides). What can I do to fix this?

I tested this with another game, just to rule out it being a game specific problem. The problem persists for both M.A.X. (Mechanized Assault and Exploration) and Betrayal at Krondor.

Details:
The problem occurs when running the game(s) through dosbox inside VMWare. (So, perhaps this is a VMWare issue, I don't know). In all cases I used the latest version of dosbox: .74. Here are some scenarios:

** Windows 7 (64 bit) host >> VMWare running Windows 98 >> Run game w/ dosbox >> Mouse locked up on edges
** Windows 7 (64 bit) host >> VMWare running Windows 2000 Pro >> Run game w/ dosbox >> Fail... won't start... complains about needing 256 colors. (VMWare tools failed to install, so this may be why).
** Windows 7 (64 bit) host >> VMWare running Linux Mint 13 (KDE) >> Run game w/ dosbox >> Mouse locked up on edges
** Windwos 7 (64 bit) host >> VMWare running Windows XP SP3 >> Run game w/ dosbox >> WORKS FINE!
** Windwos 7 (64 bit) host >> Run game w/ dosbox >> WORKS FINE!
** Windows XP Pro SP3 host >> Run game w/ dosbox >> WORKS FINE!

So... any ideas about why mouse is stuck in Win98 and Linux Mint 13?

Do you need more info? Ask and I'll see if I can provide.

We had a similar discussion before and all we can say is that when you run dosbox natively mouse works fine. Not much one can do if you run an emulator inside a virtual machine. It's bound to be troublesome.

Sorry, I had looked around, and couldn't find anything about this.

And why are you running dosbox in a VM on Windows 7?

To test compatibility with other systems. -- Specifically, testing multi-player across OS environments.

My point is not simply to run the program, but rather to verify if it will work in other OS environments.

Anyways, I guess I can refine this to:
If I get to the point where the game runs through dosbox inside virtual machine, but mouse is locked on edges, does this mean it will work fine if I were to run it through dosbox directly on a machine with whatever OS the virtual machine was emulating?

No but you can most likely say if it works ok in one OS with a certain version of Dosbox chances are it works the same in a different OS with the same dosbox version.
