Wow that 386 is pimped out 🤣
Didn't know ASUS made 386 motherboards 😀 Do they have any information on their support pages?

You definitely miss a GUS because there in one more essential: Second Reality
and then go straight to Unreal, Crystal Dream 1 and 2 a.s.o.

I tried Wing Commander III and Wolf3D and they seem to run ok on my IBM 386. ROTT was well, lets say meh.
p.s anyone know if a 486slc will work on an ibm ps/2 70?
I own too many computers to count.

Are you sure, maybe it was Wing Commander 2 😀
"Runs ok" is like "how long's a piece of string?"

Missing a GUS like Elandia says 😜 I hope to acquire one in the near future.
Almost no information exist on the ASUS 386 boards and the manual is missing. Me and badmojo have the same board in our 386 builds (with alot of the same parts 🤣!). Check his thread here: A discarded 386DX-40 gets some love
I saw one a while ago, not that expensive. Not sure why I didn't go for it 😀 I think I got enough 386 gear as it is. I can't fit any more shelves in my computer room and they are already stacked full.
Yes very nice motherboard that, I really like the early ASUS boards. I thought I'd killed mine at one stage when I was re-wiring a keyboard and testing it on the 386. Fortunately it was just they keyboard controller fuse, which was an easy solder job to replace.
Mau1wurf1977 I hear your pain and - with only your best interests in mind - will generously allow you to store some of your Roland gear at my house 😀

🤣 very funny 😀
I can always more and get a bigger place with bigger shelves and bigger storage boxes 😀
My neighbour has the XXXL from woolworths. So there is always a way 🤣
But there is always the worry of it going out of hand. So far it's a nice observable collection. But I admit I often passed up good purchases simply because of not wanting it to get out of control. It all started with playing MS-DOS games, but now I'm getting interesting in the early Windows stuff as well. Oh dear...
^ I've ended up with a collection of 5 or so consoles over the years somehow which was not part of the plan, but as long as they're cheap and I have the space then I'm not too worried. I looked at my finances today though and realised that I've spent WAY too much in the last month without even trying - that worries me! I think it's time I draw myself up a budget to stick to.

Same! When the direct debits came through I almost fell off the chair 😵

Except the cache, only 64kB. Don't know if the amount of cache makes much of difference in a 386, though.

I don't think the ASUS board support more cache. Anyway, I benched 12.9 in 3Dbench. Mau1wurf1977 benched 14.0 on his 386 with 256 kb cache, AMD cpu at 33mhz, newer Forex board (but same amount of RAM and same VGA card), so there is not that much of a difference. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9sPWnXivTI
I didn't want to imply that this box/board could be upgraded even more, just that a 386 in general could be upgraded with more cache RAM.
Regarding the difference in 3DBench: That would make 8.5%, more than I would have guessed. But of course one would have to bench on the same board to claim that solely the amount of cache RAM is the cause of that difference.
If I were to source a GUS for this 386, which model would be preferred by you "GUS" experts?
Primax AltraSound or Primax MusicSound as they are 100% GUS classic clones (Rev. 3.7), usually cheaper to get and easy to upgrade with one 512 kB chip. They have an integrated mixer as well and CD-ROM interfaces.
