Could someone shed some light on this? I have a seagate goflex drive that is turning itself on and off under XP - it won't even stay on long enough to recognize the drive.

My first guess was a power problem - maybe it trying to draw more than the port can supply.
My second guess is something windows is doing - it seems to run until Windows finishes loading, and then the cycling starts. Yet it worked fine for a long time, and nothing else has changed.
There is nothing wrong with the drive, and other devices work fine in that port.
Very puzzling!

Maybe XP is trying to use some kind of power-saving mode. Is this a laptop?

Thanks for the reply!

I think I found the problem. I noticed the BIOS was giving me an error message in the power section... the +5 volt supply was down to 4.46 volts. I put in a different supply and it seems to have fixed the problem.

This may also explain some of the other problems I was having with the system - I will have to wait and see on that
