I finally upgraded my 486 pc with 128kb cache. One of the things i had to do was tracking down 8kx9 tag ram. The main cache consists of 4 UM61256AK-12 chips. After running cachechk i found it's performance to be appalling. Ram access time (write) is a lot slower compared to no L2 cache. Could it be that the cache is 120ns instead of 12?

The speed of the cache is irrelevant. It's the setting in the BIOS that determines the speed. The motherboard can't talk to the cache chip and ask it "hey how fast are you".

If you set timings in the BIOS that are too tight you will now straight away 😀

Youre using WT or WB for L2?

Try WT

It has the old AMI BIOS with out the logo. Normally there is a 'Advanced chipset setup' in the menu, but mine
doesn't. I dumped the bios, and looking into it i find the advanced chipset strings. That doesn't have to mean
the menu is implemented.
