Hi, it's an old topic, but I prefer to ask here rather than opening another one.

Recently I scavanged some cache chips for my OEM 486 board, but I thought I better ask first, before frying something - 486 is ... too old for my know-how 😀

All of the chips are 32K x 8 SRAM, but the TAG ram I got is from a socket 7 board - I think it's FIC PT 2003 or something like that - it had both COAST and 32 pin cache chips (and both types were inserted, I don't know if it worked that way, or if there is any jumper for switching between them)

Do you think I could have problems with running these cache chips altogether? I think I've seen in the forum some software for testing cache?

No ideas? I'll shorten the questions to just the cache 😀

on "good" boards it was common to have an extra socket for additional tag ram if it wasn't included on the coast card. That said, I'd go for it. as long as the pin-outs are the same, i can't fathom any issues.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
