Hello. I've decided to play Minecraft again after a break since 2013. Already back then I knew about some mods and some of them are still around, like Optifine, Magic Launcher and BDCraft texture pack.

Now I want more. Got any ideas? And feel free to tell me if I need either ModLoader or Forge, since I'm quite green on that area.

I thought we didn't care that much about "graffix" on these forums.

it's less about 'graffix' and more about something far less stressing a virtualmachine. and software rendering would be more logical to avoid block overdraw and have really fast spans to work with

Can one really write a software renderer for this thing in Java, of all languages? And actually have it perform more better than the OpenGL they have in place?

Why not start a thread about that? I was asking for mods, not Java or programing languages.....

There's a massive number of Minecraft mods out there. I've been playing the game through the Feed The Beast launcher for quite some time now, as you get access to various modpacks that way filled to the brim with new content and stuff to do. :B

If THAT doesn't satiate your desire for modded Minecraft, nothing will. :P

Oh wow, Gemini! I love Ancient DOS Games.
Thanks for telling me 'bout the FTB Launcher, I'll have a look tomorrow. 😀

I've actually been meaning to do a video on the FTB stuff for quite some time now, but there's always new stuff to do and I'm always starting new worlds when I change to new packs so I've never really been able to get far enough along in any one world to really be able to demonstrate the sheer level of complexities available when you have over 100 mods going at once, some of which are cross compatible and offer extra functionality as a result. :B

Currently playing the new Infinity pack in case you're curious. Direwolf20 has a pretty solid pack too which he uses for his Let's Play series on YouTube, though I'm finding I like the Infinity Pack better. You may also want to try the third party pack "Material Energy^4" if you'd rather have quests and objectives as opposed to an open world, yet still want all kinds of mods to play with.

If you have a good computer you could use the ultimate shaders mod (SEUS). It really makes the game much MUCH more amazing to play.

Windows 8.1 x64
Intel Core i5 4670K (around 3.40Ghz)
8GB DDR3 RAM
Geforce 770

You think that'll cut it?

UPDATE: Tried FTB Launcher, it's really nice!

Oh! Make sure you increase the RAM usage in the FTB Launcher's options. The default is often not going to allow for the best gameplay experience given the huge number of mods these packs tend to load in, plus this is a good way to tell if you're using 32-bit or 64-bit Java, since you won't be able to access more than 2 GB of RAM if it detects and uses 32-bit. (In which case, you'll need to read up on how to get 64-bit Java working.)

I have the x64 version of Java installed only, and I've learned from Magic Launcher that I should always increase the value of memory allocated before playing. But do I need to do more than just make sure I have Java 64 installed?

Oh, and I really think you should do a video on FTB and/or Minecraft. Sure, everyone and their mothers might be doing it. But AFAIK no one has made a video about FTB.

I have my RAM limit set at 8 GB (16 GB available) and even then I still sometimes end up using over half of that. :O

With an 8 GB system I would recommend setting it to 4 GB at least in the launcher's options, maybe even 6 GB. Don't go all the way up to 8 though, otherwise you'll interfere with everything else trying to run.

Erm... See that "Direwolf20" pack in the launcher? Direwolf20 is a YouTube Let's Player who does nothing BUT modded Minecraft and has been for YEARS, releasing at least one video every single day. :O

...and that's just the tip of the iceberg!

There's tons of FTB and modded Minecraft videos out there. Too much to really get noticed by. If I'm going to do an FTB video at some point it should be for the benefit of the people who already watch my show, which means it needs to be able to demonstrate just how much depth all the mods add, but that's hard to do in a fresh world that hasn't been played for at least a couple or three months, but because I don't play Minecraft every day, it takes me even longer to get anywhere and then I'm routinely resetting my world to try out new stuff with new packs.

So... yeah. One of these days once I can get a particular world far enough along! :B

Ugh, this pisses me off to no end. I've installed 1.8 of Minecraft because I'm using Forge and currently it doesn't support 1.8.1.
Anyway, everything works fine. I first ran MC as normal, having 1.8 selected as prefered version. Then I installed the recommended version of Forge and also ran it once. Then I downloaded Magic Launcher. I added Optifine for some better performance and it works great.

Then I heard about a mod called More Swords. So I download it and put it in the mods folder created by Forge. Magic Launcher does indeed find More Swords in the mod folder. But there's a yellow line, saying "No mods found". And as such, More Swords isn't working.

I've googled all over to find an answer. But none of the fixes I found solved anything.
Anyone know what to do?

Anyone here play tekkit? I've never really been able to get FTB to work with any reliability. For some reason you need a freaking super computer to run it. 🤣

I host a modded Minecraft server @ co-ui.com Its usually just me. The pack is called TPPI (test pack please ignore), and is a successor to the first tekkit mod pack. I dont know why reddit named it that. You can pickup the pack and launcher here: http://www.technicpack.net/news

The are about ready to update to 1.7 ( i thinks )

But ANY modpack is going to just suck down ram. I give mine 4gb and it seems to be happy, even with a 256x texture pack.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
