Hello, all. First, I'd like to say VDMSound is an awesome program, allowing me to play most of my DOS collection again. Keep up the good work! 😀 And, I've also used the search function for this problem finding no solutions.
But I've run into a few problems along the way. With Doom II (actually, the whole Doom trilogy; Ultimate, II and Final), I've played around with all the audio settings; with the CPU usage slider, trying all types of sound blaster in the pull-down menu; nothing seems to work. Every time a sound effect occurs (gunshots, enemies growling or whatnot), the game slows down and stutters until the sound stops. No problems with the music.
I've tried running the game with no sound and leaving music on, and it works great, but how could you play Doom without sounds!? 😁
My specs:
Windows XP Pro SP1
AMD Athlon 2800+
512MB DDR RAM
GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/ 8X AGP
nForce2 chipset w/ built-in sound
Nicht Sehr Gut or DosFreak: have either of you gotten the Doom series to work well with SFX? I've read the thread where you guys have 4 pages of posts helping with Redneck Rampage, and thanks to that, I've gotten that series to work. Redneck Rampage & Route 66 stutter just a tad, but at least it's playable, and Ride Again works *beautiful*. I got all games to work with the cutscenes and all, so thanks for the great advice!
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
