Well... I have this http://ohwc.narod.ru/video/3dfx/v2_pc100_f.jpg in my machine, running with a Matrox G400 and a 30 centimeter aftermarket female/male vga extension cable. Using the cable as an loopback cable. It has no Ferrite core's, yet the cable it self, is aprox 8mm thick.

Now...
The Voodoo2 runs fine and dandy. Nothing there.
When I try to run 3D mode on the Matrox, the image will be distorted. It is some kind of thousands or hundreds of small vertical scanlines/interferance kind if things. That makes the picture not really pleasent to look at. If I run the Matrox without the Voodoo, there are no interferance at all, and when I run the Matrox in 2D (desktop/word/anything 2D related) there are absolutely no issues at all. The image is crisp, clear and sharp as it should be.

The issues I have, could it be the Voodoo2 card, or could it be that I should look for two clip-on ferrite cores for the improvised loopback cable?
Or could it be anything else, that makes this issue?

Another thing...
The V2-Card is a 110mhz version, and it is currently running on a Gigabyte GA-5AX with a K6-3-400 everything stock. No overclocking here.
What other brand of Voodoo2 card could I use for some SLI setup? As I have read here on Vogons and other places, that 3DfX's last drivers for V2 or later produced V2-Cards. Allows for different brands of card's, when running SLI. (could be a myth though)

If you manually connect the monitor to the Matrox, not using a pass-through, do you still get distortions when you run a 3D game on the matrox?

Ahhh... I was not really clear in the way I wrote my question in the first place.
The G400 is running 100% as it should, when not using using loopback and directly connected to the monitor.
Unless you are thinking about me trying to hook it up directly with the V2 installed in a PCI-Slot.
That have not been tested out yet. I really don't think this will make any difference, as the interferance differs, when resolutions are changed.

3D-Mark99 makes no interferance on the G400 when in 800x600, yet the pictures goes "bad" when testing 640x480.
In UT99 or other games, the interferance is there in every resolutions set.

So, it is eighter the "vga-input" on the V2 (the vga passing through the voodoo) that the V2 can not handle, when it comes to me using 3D on the Matrox. (V2 input fail's)
Or it is the loopback cable that are badly shielded, being translated to the loopback cable "hungry for some Ferrite's".
Or (have had time to test this yet) it is the VGA signal from the Matrox that the V2 aren't comfortable with. (refresh rates, etc)

Ok I see. Tried other cables for loopback, if you got more cables that is. The Voodoo takes all sorts of refresh rates, shouldn't affect the pass-through at all.

That's the problem. I don't have any other cables.
Yeah.... That's the problem. My English is rather slaggy and not good.

To me it sounds like an issue with the cable, try replacing that if you can

Ok... I will try to get some Ferrite's for the cable and test it out. Or get another cable. How long is max length by the way?

Now, on the SLI thing! Does anyone know anything about those questions I have?

Officially I believe you can only use two cards of the same model/manufacturer for SLI. There are patched drivers that allows you to mix cards, but it does not work with all combinations AFAIK

I would make the loop cable no longer than 5 or 6 inches.

5 to 6 inches are 12,7 to 15,24 centimeters. Mine are 50 centimeters in length.
I think that the cable really need some Ferrite's. Though the cable are 8mm thick and must have some good shielding. (0,23inch)
Why else would the card let the signal from 2D, pass through clean?

I have a stack of v2's. In my experience 2 cards of the same brand is always the safest option for error free operation.
For mixed sli do NOT use creative or diamond cards, they always gave me trouble in some way. Mixing the ''not so common'' brands usually works well with the right drivers since most of them are identical and maybe even made in the same factory.

asus tx97-e, 233mmx, voodoo1, s3 virge ,sb16
asus p5a, k6-3+ @ 550mhz, voodoo2 12mb sli, gf2 gts, awe32
asus p3b-f, p3-700, voodoo3 3500TV agp, awe64
asus tusl2-c, p3-S 1,4ghz, voodoo5 5500, live!
asus a7n8x DL, barton cpu, 6800ultra, Voodoo3 pci, audigy1

After some digging around the net this night. I have found old posts and questions on google groups and such a like places. That suggests this. What I have found in common, is that those who have had it working, are those who use official 3DfX drivers.

Got two different non diamond cards working with diamond drivers... So just try all drivers and see what Works.

While I was trying to get my SLI setup work, at one point, I had four Voodoo2 12MB cards all from different producers (a Creative, a STB, a Powercolor, and a ProVideo, I think) and using all the combinations with all the different original and modded drivers did not give a stable solution. At that point, I stopped buying whatever the cheapest available 12MB V2 cards. Now I have six cards, the last two of them are exactly same Diamond Monsters (from a seller who guarantees to send you the exact twins) and, finally, I have a working SLI.

Well... It seems like I have to get a PowerColor extra then.
They are really pricey on ebay though. 🙁

Got rid of the interferance and problems regarding the gfx.
I swapped the G400 with an Compaq TNT2 Ultra, and installed driver version 29.42
So it was not the cable at all. Just the V2 not behaving with the G400.
Buying that extra thick cable at a lower price, really paid off in one bizarre way I guess.
A real 3DfX loopcable are really going up in price these day's

Just a shame. I really wanted to get that Matrox going in my rig.
What I need to concentrate on now, is to get that second PowerColor V2 12mb.
(That would really be awesomme to have)

I bet that, regardless of cable length, if you got a cable to use as a pass-thru which you knew for fact used 75-Ohm mini-coax cable on all five lines (R, G, B, H-Sync, V-Sync) that this would work just fine no matter the card combo.

Huh!!! Cable technology is what I don't understand.
Nothing bad. I just don't understand what is what regarding cables and ohm and length.
Totally noob in this field. 😁

EDIT:
The cable I bought, was this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Verlangerungskabel-VG … =item2c6e406ac5
