Changing the subject back on-track - I've got a few questions about the SID chip:

1) How many different types of SIDs were manufactured by MOS/ CSG? I think there are at least 5, if I go by the "R5" stamp on the 8580 series...

2) If the 8580R5 is a reference sound, which of those SID types sound the most 'different' would you say?

I'm looking at enhancing the pseudo-stereo effect using two replica boards. So far, I've tried a 6581R4, and it sounds pretty much identical.

I also have a question, regarding pitch.

When I recorded songs from Ultima VI, I captured different variations of the soundtrack : Tandy 3-voice, CMS, Adlib, SSI-2001 and LAPC-I.
I noted that they all blended harmoniously, seemingly playing at the same (or similar) pitch, except the SSI-2001.

I tried playing with the jumper to switch between 0.89 and 1.02.
Yes the pitch changed, but neither option seemed to create notes at the same height as the other sound cards, making the SSI-2001 replica 'out of tune'.

Anyone had the same problem? I'll make a video if anything I write is unclear.

The more sound cards, the better.

SwinSID should be fully transparent - so it should work perfectly.
(except for the paddles when in 8580 mode - if that feature is emulated and someone writes software for it, as the 8580 needs slightly different values for the caps there to go the full range [the values on the SSI-2001 are meant for 6581 SID chips])

Hello everyone! I previously helped bristlehog with porting the SID player to DOS and making timer synchronization code, but didn't hear from him since. Problem is that I didn't test that code, because I have neither hardware, nor the build environment he used. Every time I made a change he had to compile it and run on his card.
Can I still help?

If you can tell us what you need us to do, then I'm sure someone here could help?

Well, it seems like bristlehog has no free time for the moment... I'm a programmer also, but I don't write for DOS or Win32-console apps... And I have very little free time now also.
So I someone can do something usefull about SID player for SSI-2001, it will be much appreciated. Probably we can get source code from bristlehog for the SIDTEST app...

I think I have it. But still hesitate to buy the card itself, don't even have SID, I'm AY fan 😀. И жаба душит
My limited capacity to test it without the card is the reason why timer synchronization code is still borked.
I don't even know if the app works corectly at all for someone at this point. There were several versions of timer sync code, DOS-only with lower precision(still much higher than needed by most SIDs), incompatible with win 98 dosbox, and presumably better one that was supposed to run as win9x console app, and probably has limited CPU/motherboard compatibility.
BTW, did I hear correctly that there's SID emulator for Propeller MCU? Recently got one.
Anyway, wrote PM to Fagear.

Feels like silence here... I'll wake you up a little!

I've made one of my concepts in the hardware: PC mounting bracket from PCB!

As simple as that.
Two milled PCBs, that are assembled together by soldering. As cheap as it gets: 1-sided, no soldermask, no silkscreen (but all those can be added if needed).
This bracket provides electrical connection to the PC casing and shielding (as does metal one).

Those brackets will be supplied by default with new boards with no additional cost.

If there are spares going, I'd love to order those brackets as well - ideally 2 of them for my pair of replicas. Nice choice of colour, Fagear; they look like special editions.

I was just about to post that. The 8255 is confusing me quite a lot ... and so is the origin of that picture.
