Having installed VDM Sound XP pro SP2 is not booting anymore. Deinstalling VDM does not help, only deleting everything related to vdm sound in the registry helps - and that the security center is complaining of not having installed firewall and virusscanner - this problem was meantioned earlier.

Not beeing able to have a proper installation of vdm sounds I can't use the suggested way and leave VDM on the computer

(which is bad because I can't play Ultima 1 with sound either)

Someone having an idea?

Thanks Electronicguitar

I think that original Ultima 1 did not have much sound (just PC beeper), so it is probably some update or remake... In any case it should work in DOSBOX.
VDMSound is good for some 3D games which are too slow in DOSBOX (like Blood etc.). I do not think it is the case of Ultima 1... 😀 Last time I checked Ultima 1 was very old turn based game... 😀

Try SoundFX.

Thanks for the answers.
But I still have two problems: one: VDM Sound nor running (and no possibility to try because no boot), two: Xp security center not working properly. There is a hint about the reason why (what happens during deinstallation). I don't feel happy installing another program (thanks MiniMax and mirekluza ) without having solved the problems left over from the last program/deistallation.
Any ideas?

DOSBOX does not install anything into system or registry. It is far safer than VDMsound. Basically it just puts its EXE and DLLs into one directory and creates shortcuts. So there should not be any danger of screwing up you system.

Unfortunately I know only very little about VDMsound, I have never used it, so I cannot help you here.

I don't have XP/SP2, so I know 'nuttin about that security center. Is there any reason that you can not do a Repair-Install of XP followed by SP2? That should sort out your registry and SC problems (I hope).
