@munx what cpu/wattage is that? i have a 125W FX 6200 3.8 and i now easily hit 70C under load; im probably going for the
FORTIS 3 HE1425 or even the GRANDIS XE1236 but im not entirely sure this will solve the problem as my GPU likes
to cross 70C under load as well

FX6100. On stock cooling I dont think Ive ever seen it go past the 65C mark even under a gaming load until recently.
It could be the questionable stock thermal paste they give, mine was almost crust after less than 3 years.

Nice!! I have the same cooler, but mounted in another heatsink (CM Geminii M4, which is the flat/compact model) and love it!! CPUs work really cool with one of those 212 😀

This one looks slightly different from regular UD4P - old heatsink design which was used on some 1366 and AM2 boards. Well, the hard part is this board has very old bios and supposedly it is not possible to update it. So I must get i5 750 which is the oldest 1156 CPU and hope for the best (I'm not even sure the board works).

really like to know why you cant update the bios?

This board is pre-production revision and I was told by the previous owner that regular BIOS update is not possible.
My intention is to run i5 750... and that one should work regardless of BIOS version. 1156 boards are quite expensive here and I'm not going to try my luck... and possibly brick it by unnecessary update. 😵

Best at what? Their cooling is ok at best. But you could not beat the value they had when they first came out.

Just have a look at their newegg page. 2800 5-star happy reviews and another 740 at 4-star. It's just.. it may not be class-leading but it's one of the "staples" of just.. pick it and tell someone to use it if they're building a system and need something better than stock, and don't worry about performance and know it will do well for them. They're really great coolers in general.

2x Xeon X5450... pretty much xeon equivalent of C2Q Q9650, with SMP support of course. Will be interesting to compare these two with 8-core AMD FX. 😈

Picked up another Xeon E5 V3 for $104 shipped, some oddball QS model with 12 cores and 30mb of L3 cache. Wanted to try out a V4 Broadwell but too many of them are ES that don't play nice with x99 boards for comfort.

Got me this HP Proliant MicroServer Gen8 G1610T to replace my Synology NAS (and to play around with 😀). Now looking for a Xeon CPU to upgrade it with (but hard to find a Socket 1155 Xeon). The Celeron in it now is also quite fast actually!

Just bought a Lenovo IS6XM motherboard. It was the cheapest socket 1155 motherboard I could find that has enough slots and connectors for my purpose. I have an i7-2600k cpu that has been gathering dust for the past 2 years, since I accidentally messed the pins in the cpu socket of the motherboard it was originally installed in, and didn't have the time/motivation to rebuild that system until now. I want to make a small form computer that will be used as a dedicated game server for ARK: Survival Evolved. With a 4-core 3.4GHz cpu, 16GB of DDR3 and a 250GB SSD it should be able to support a pretty sweet world, tricked with mods and whatnot.

Thanks for the offer. I have actually setup a server this morning on a test machine, works very well. Finding the options for the server and the files they should go in was a bit of a challenge but I found all I need (it's a headless Linux installation so I have to do all editing remotely through ssh). I do have a question or two so I'll take it to PM.

Be careful with the CPU you put in it. The G1610T is a 35W TDP model. Here's HP's spec sheet for the Gen8's.
