Today i decide "screw dat i3 server,too boring" so i put gigabit ethernet card and 1tb hdd in my p4.

Just found this forum a few days ago and am really enjoying seeing all this great vintage hardware still being put to good use !

Here's my retro gaming machine. A bit of a mix of old and new but the guts are all retro. I had this set up in a different case running Windows XP for a few years but it was just crawling .. I think perhaps XP wasn't liking the 512meg ram but I was limited by what the motherboard could handle. Not long ago I rebuilt it in a newer case and decided to give it a shot running Windows 98, as I had much less powerful machines back in the day that performed much better using 98 and even ME. Turns out that was the right call and am now experiencing much better performance and compatibility with some of my older games.

2 x 256meg Kingston PC133
Gigabyte GeForce 6600 (with passive cooler)

One day I'll actually catalog it all and do some better photos. Other stacks not shown contain "the black" and "the rack servers".

And I thought I was crazy for owning 34 systems, not counting laptops, consoles and God knows what else. I also have a nice collection of NIB and used mechanical keyboards. I'm surprised I still have room in the house 😀

My collection in it's current state. I actually use the Dell quite a bit. With Windows 98SE, the 866mhz Pentium III and 512mb RDRAM are put under very little strain and with plenty of tweaks and patches and prodding around, the OS functions well on the internet and is, at the moment, suitable as a daily driver if my good computer were to suddenly die. Micron I just have no place to set it up and I don't have another keyboard to plug into it. The Mac Performa is a nifty machine and I'm amazed at how simple and elegant the design is when I take it apart but I think it'll spend the rest of it's life doing nothing more than running Prince of Persia or some other old game from time to time.

I used to have one of those. I sold it on Ebay months ago. Pretty odd to see a Pentium III with RDRAM. I heard is slower than PC100 or something..

Its an old Intel Astor server chassis, painted black (it was badly beaten) and remade as a retro gaming machine featuring L440gx+ mobo, two 700mhz slot-1 CPUs, 1gig of ECC ram, two Voodoo2 in SLI and a lovely AWE64. System HDD is a SCSI drive inside a hotswap bay, file storage is an IDE drive mounted sideways. Running Windows 98 with only one CPU for DOS games and Windows XP for a two CPU functionality.

Slot cpu clamps were broken when I attempted to replace the old thermal compund so I had to use nuts and bolts to put them back together.

Newer revisions of this mobo allow SLOT-1 cpus up to 1ghz but it is really not necessary for me cause I play older games.

Got a fancy Floppy drive off an old Dell Optiplex.

This is a pc I recently acquired.

CPU: AMD K6 Mobile 200mhz
RAM: 4x 32MB edo for 256mb edo ram + 2x 128mb SD-ram for a total of 384mb
PSU: Power Alliance 250watt AT
Current Hardrives: 40gig WD & 20Gig Maxtor Single Platter
DVD Drive: Hitachi GD DVD Reader
Video card: Number Nine 4mb Wram PCI Hawkeye
Sound Card: Soundblaster AWE64 Gold

When I got it it had a dead WD Caviar drive a Cirus Logic 1mb Video card 64mb of edo ram and no audio card.

this one is my favorite, its mix of newer stuff with old Specs Are:

HDD: 2x white label wester digital 120GB (from ebay, works really well)
OS:Windows XP Pro sp3 (registry mod, still getting updates)
Audio: Asus Xonar DG
USB: ALI usb card with front tray 2 ports back 4 in front
Video: Geforce 6800GT (at first i had a 9200 pro bad drivers, then i had a ti4200 and i get better 3dmark scores with every upgrade and better game play with a 6800GT)
as well as zip drive and floppy emulator
