DOSBox crashing after startup when no mouse is connected

Hi everyone,
I tried to run DOSBox on my Lenovo Miix 2 8 Windows 8 Tablet.
DOSBox crashed directly after startup. It loads, console flashes and its gone. I googled and came upon a post in another forum, where the poster discribes the same problem on his Windows 8 notebook. His solution was to plug in an usb mouse. I tried the same thing and sure enough works. Is this a known problem and is there a fix? Don't want plug in a mouse into my tablet everytime i aüwant to use DOSBox.
I am running Windows 8.1 but the same thing happens to me on Windows 10.

Yes, there have been many threads about this in the past. It is a problem with the old version of SDL used by DOSBox.

I think there is a patch (originating from the GOG.com forums), or you can change the SDL video driver.
"Device not registered" error and exit
