okay, i'm not computer illiterate, but my dad is, and he wants to play his old dos games... i use VDMSound all the time, no prob... but put simply, i don't trust him to right click a file, or use my computer to browse files. i want to place a separate shortcut in the start menu or desktop for each game that allows him to simply double click on it, and run the game with VDMSound at the same time without right clicking on the icon.

Hi - I am not sure how to do this, but I think you can do it by having your fathers shortcut point to a BAT/CMD-file. Inside this CMD-file, you first invoke DOSDRV.EXE to set up the VDMSound system (see the ReadMe.RTF file), and then you start his game.

The big problem here is how to get DOSDRV.EXE to create the desired VDMSound emulation. From what I can see, you need to feed DOSDRV.EXE a manually crafted INI-file (as in dosdrv -i virtualsnd.ini) that corresponds to the settings in LaunchPad short-cut.

I think I remember doing some experiements with the LaunchPad where I had it start a simple CMD-window. For a few seconds, the temporary INI-file that LaunchPad created was visibile *somewhere*, but I do not remember where I found it. Perhaps in the current directory, perhaps in C:\WINDOWS\system32, perhaps somewhere else... Anyway, if you are quick, I think you can copy it to a safe place, and then use it with DOSDRV.EXE.
