When discussing a topic do keep in mind the context set by the original poster. Taking something out of context can, like in this case, lead to unnecessary confusion and arguments.

You're correct. I completely forgot about Oldskoolmaniac, even though he had made a new reply here.
My apologies Oldskoolmaniac 😊

You mentioned having problems with your board?
Personally I think you should first concentrate in getting it to run stable first. For all we know, the board could've sustained some kind of damage even before you gotten it in your hands.

Try to make it run with a Pentium at stock settings (like setting it to run @ 166MHz with a 66MHz FSB) and run it with known good memory, preferably only 1 or 2 sticks (I don't think your board can run single sticks of memory, so try using identical pairs).

Also try using a known good PSU and do all of your testing on a motherboard box.

Phil actually made a good video about how to do a basic check-up on a motherboard.

But whatever you do, don't toss the board as you might end up regretting that (even though you might not like the SiS thing).

I'm afraid there's no 'shaking hands' or 'moving on' from where I'm standing. I had moved on from Tetrium months ago. Yet here he comes again, taking a post of mine apart for no other reason than attacking me personally (the post he responded to had nothing to do with him, and he made a big deal out of nothing). It's a personal vendetta of some sort, from his side.

No i defiantly wont toss the board, when i start running into problems i pull everything apart and store all my stuff in separate bins so they are organized in my closet. you know like taking a break and coming back to it later.

And yes lets please be respectful of people's opinions on stuff, I would like for this post to remain so when i do get this board back out i can look back on my trial and errors with this build.

and i welcome all opinions.

Ok so i got everything back up and running and i got the new bios installed at first i used the Award flash witch would not flash cuz it said something about a mismatch (and yes its an award bios) so i used the universal flasher tool and it flash the new bios but it said bootblock error when it finished, at first i was scared to restart, so i thought ah screw it and now...... drum roll..... im booted up successfully into windows and the bios did show the new correct bios version and everything is stable. I was now able to clone my os to a 120gb hdd and now i have a 120gb hdd booting windows 98.

Now i want to see if i can get a k6-2 333mhz afr running on it, what should i have the voltage set at and the multiplier set to for this cpu and will this be faster then the pmmx 233mhz?

As your board doesn't support 95MHz FSB, I'd suggest you try 5x66MHz first at 2.2v.

before the bios update i did get it showing the the 333 k6 properly and boot one time into windows fully stable, but then i restarted it, it would freeze everytime in the bios before booting 98, but now that i have the bios updated i read somewhere on a few sites that it is supposed support the k6 333 at 66fsb with a multi at 5x so i guess its back to messing with the jumper for me.

Im a little confused on what it says on the cpu itself: 2.2v core/3.3v I/O <---what does that mean? what is the 3.3v I/O? But CPU-world says: Min/Recommended/Max V I/O or secondary 3.135V / 3.3V / 3.6V

These CPUs use split-voltage, so they have 2 different voltages and this is often market on both s7 and ss7 boards and CPUs, if applicable. The I/O voltage is usually the same for all later s7 or ss7 CPUs (3.3v) and the other voltage is the voltage that's typically around 2.8v for earlier split-voltage CPUs like Pentium MMX and Cyrix 6x86MX and lower for stuff like K6-2.

I got it set at 2.8v and it shows amd k6-2 @ 333mhz in bios, everything runs stable accept for shutting down it now hangs at the windows is shutting down screen and i always have to hold the button.

Also when i had the pmmx in it lagged with simcity 2000 when i move around the city and on other games as well my cpu is at 87% so does that mean i should upgrade my video card? The only video cards i have is a voodoo3 2000 pci and a Rage 128 pro 16mb pci with the tv tuner.

Im also wondering if the pci slots on this board are to slow, i only have a usb 2.0 card and 128zx on the pci when i plug a usb device in explorer becomes slower.

I enabled async on the board and now my games are much faster, i might try getting a k6-3+ working in it and i heard someone saying that the k6-3+ has l2 cache built on to it and that the my board does not have l2 cache at all.

You have to set the 2.8v on your motherboard to the 2.2v mentioned on your CPU or you risk frying it, 2.8v is WAY too high!

Just a friendly tip: Read The Manual or google. It would be a waste to fry that K6-2 for a reason like this, even though these aren't particularly rare I think.
Good for you is that K6-2 chips are easy to replace, these should be abundant.

What are the recommended system requirements for Simcity 2000?

Something like 386DX 33MHz for the DOS version and 486DX 33MHz for Windows. I used to run the DOS version on a DX2-66 and it ran perfectly.

SC2K also doesn't need a fancy graphics card. When I still had a 486, it ran fine on my old Trident card with 1Mb of VRAM. It still works fine on a Pentium II under Windows 98SE with AGP VGA, although it runs a bit fast...

There was most likely something else wrong when Oldskoolmaniac's MMX couldn't really handle SC2K. Maybe the CPU was overheating (TIM?)?

Oldskoolmaniac, I could advice you to inform yourself a bit better before trying something out quickly that will keep you troubleshooting for hours afterwards.
Some of the stuff that you may break by being a bit too careless might be a lot more difficult to replace or repair.

Got a 500mhz K6-2 running at 457MHz 83FSB x 5.5 at 2.2v very stable, if only i could figure how to get the multiplier to 6.

I did a lot of digging around and upgrading parts on this board this past week and here is what I come up with so far.

I flashed it with a non packerd bell modified bios, I used the universal bios flasher tool it will state that it cannot flash the boot block, just ignore it and restart. Now there is one problem with this bios is upon boot up the memory check will keep checking the ram over and over, just skip it and everything will boot fine. This modified bios is the only one to support the K6 III+ cpu's.

Right now im running a K6 III+ 450MHz at 500MHz and very stable, here is my jumper settings.
Jumper on or jumper off
2.0volts; JP8=off, JP9=on, JP10=off, JP11=off
83FSB; JP14=on, JP15=off, JP16=off
x6 Multi; JP1=on, JP2=off, JP3=off
Runs very cool, but I am also using a HSF from a socket A board.

There is a lot of information here: https://www.wimsbios.com/forum/cpu-isn-recogn … lity-t5620.html and here is the bios file, look for BCM as you're motherboard here: http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/k6plus.htm

Disable the onboard video and audio cause they are terrible anyways.

Also make sure after the bios upgrade that you go into the bios settings and disable external cache.

Thanks for the update! Glad you got it running 😀

I reckon you disabled the motherboard cache due to the higher FSB? Or perhaps maybe due to performance issues?

I had to turn it off, cause no matter what k6 i throw in it will not boot properly. Also another side note is that this board has week voltage supply to the cpu so lets say the cpu requires 2.0V jump that up one more to 2.1V.
