Hi,

sorry for my english.
I'm a new user and my name is Dario. Nice to meet you 😀

My old pc (i bought it used) has the same problem that i saw in this discussion:

(Solved) Bios POST error message: CMOS INOPERATIONAL. SYSTEM HALTED.

The specs of my old pc are:

Cpu: Intel N80286-10 10 mhz
Ram: 4 MB (8 x KM44C25GAP-8)
Motherboard: Octek Fox M 286 rev 1.1
Vga: Vga port and Ega port. Perhaps it is 16 bit. I use the Vga port.

I don't have a vintage keyboard with the connector Din 5 pin. At the moment i can't connect a keyboard to the my old pc because i don't have an adaptor Din 5 pin male to ps2 female. Please, tell me if it's the cause of this error.

I desoldered one of tantalum capacitor (behind the connector P8) because was the cause of short circuit. Without this capacitor pc and psu are turned on. I must to buy a new tantalum capacitor with the same specs in the future.
The old battery was dead and in the shop didn't have a battery with the same mah. The new battery: + join Nimh BM704-33 3,6 volt 80 mah.

The old dead battery:

Without battery:

I replaced the old IC Motorola MC146818P with a Motorola MC146818CP that i bought new in the shop. This new IC has to the letter C but i don't know if is a problem or no.
Then i removed the scotch-tape and i solder the new battery and i respected the polarity.

So many systems think the battery is dead if the CMOS RAM is full of random data, and that doesn't go away until you go into setup and restore system defaults. Or use a setup program on disk (Compaq etc...)

I'm not even sure you needed to replace the battery unless it was leaking, leaving it sit powered on for a while may have charged it enough. However, leaving these old systems for weeks between playtimes can often mean your CMOS battery is flat again.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Just a quick thought... additional letter "C" might stand for CMOS levels, not fully compatible with TTL. I could not find any proof of that though.

From the datasheet it looks like the version without C is already CMOS levels. That would be ironic though, if the CMOS chip was incompatible because it was using CMOS levels 😀

I take it putting the original Motorola RTC chip back in doesn't change anything?

I have a Plantron P9 with same Error,

there are some defective Traces, so CMOS can't accessed correctly.
Maybe your Battery has damaged something.

But this Board looks pretty clean... 😳
