I recently got a pretty good deal on a 486-mobo, cpu an ram combo. Came with 4mb of ram (guess it could a been worse) but whats confusing me is its type.

Its 32pin, and i only really see (and usually hear about) 30 or 72pin when i do searches for kits online.

Is 32pin some un-normal standard? I'm *relatively* new to retro-builds, can i assume its backwards comparable with the more common 30pin ram or, am i a little outa-luck on an upgrade here?

Thanks! 😀

Could you please take some pictures of the RAM and mobo? I only know old macs use 32pin SIMMs.

Mac PC upgrade board? Basically that's a PC on a expansion board that you can plug into a Mac, and it would be useless without the its special software or Mac (obviously).

Other options are some proprietary industrial solution that happens to use a 486 processor, or maybe a NEC PC-98 or compatible system (which do not work with conventional MS-DOS or Windows, you need a special version because the hardware architecture is entirely different).

it is really 30-pin. I have some simms with an extra pin on each end. At least on mine, they aren't even connected.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
