I have issues with my good old sound blaster pro 2 model number CT1690. I have tried the card with 3 different motherboards already and i dont know how to fix it.

it should not need any drivers at all. Altho i did install some SB16 pro 2.0 install disks on one machine and it always said that there was no card on addres 220.

I HAVE COMPLETELY RECAPPED THE CARD WITH NEW CAPACITORS AND IT DID NOT FIX IT.

1) Aopen Pentium3 motherboard: The card seems to work SOMETIMES. I run a game and sometimes it Detects the card and sometimes it does not detect. It is a lottery, but at least works. with Wolf3d it works but after some minutes the game just crashes.

2) With a pcchips M919 motherboard: The card never worked, and games do not detect it.

3) With FIC 486-PIO3 motherboard : the card never worked and games do not detect it.

i have touched every bios setting, leaving irq resources to PCI, then leaving to ISA only, changing jumpers on the card, tried everything.

There are no signs of broken traces. card is in good shape.

What other things could i try? maybe replacing the voltage regulator 7809 that is on the card ?
i dont want to give up, since it is such a good card and hard to find

this is the card:

If it is a PNP card it NEEDS drivers!
Non PNP should not.

Edit: But it looks like it is a non PNP card.

Edit2: Are any parts getting excessively hot during operation? Are the contacts cleaned e.g. with an eraser?
Are the ISA sockets on the boards clean?

Edit3: Is the card on the photo THE card after recapping? Can we see the other side, too please?

This is NOT a Sound Blaster 16, and this is not a Sound Blaster 2.0 either, it's a Sound Blaster Pro 2 (without ".0"). There never was any PNP Sound Blaster Pro by the way.

This is all very suspicious - how can you know so little about a card that you went to the trouble of recapping?

according to the wiki it says sb pro 2.0
https://www.vogonswiki.com/index.php/Creative_Labs

but here it says CT1690 Sound Blaster Pro 2 OEM
http://www.pc-collection.com/sb-cr-audio-ctxxxx-v1-00.php

buy here it says: Sound Blaster PRO SONY CT1690

i recapped it because it had 2 broken capacitors, so i started changing those and on the pentium 3 machine sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not, after replacing all caps i was able to test them on a 486 motherboard to find out that it did not work on those.

i will clean with an eraser the pins and post actual pictures tonight and leve it on for some minutes and touch the chips to see if any is overheating

The jumpers all look to be in the proper location.

Are ANY of the jumpers loose fitting? If so, you could be getting an intermittent connection.

You will also want to try cleaning the edge connector on the card with a pencil eraser. Oxidation of the edge connector can cause all sorts of issues. (You ninja posted me while I was looking at the manual for the jumpers.)

You need to make sure that nothing else on the motherboard is using the IRQ you have the card set for.

The 16 came from the CT1600 I'm guessing. It's not really suspicious...especially since, unlike the CT1600, this card doesn't have its name on the PCB.

Yes, this is a "Sound Blaster Pro 2" with a Sony CD-ROM Interface.

The photo is NOT his card...it is a photo off of the internet! I know because I keep a folder of hi-res images of cards. I went to compare the one in the thread to my image to see if anything was different, and it was the same image 😁.

Let's wait and see what results OP comes back with.

Yeah,
I have a slight suspicion what it could be. But photos of the actual card are needed to verify.

i cleaned the golden contacts with a pen eraser
then cleaned the contacts with magic eraser

then replaced all jumpers with new ones.
then i inserted the card onn the fic motherboard and for the first time the card was detected on a game with that motherboard without any line added to autoexec. commander keen i think it was sound was comming out but some tones were way off. then runned doom and there was gun sounds but no music and after playing 1minute sound stopped

turned off

added setblaster on autoexec and started to work properly. every game i tried detected the card and no more sound problems. i was even able to run the sb pro 2 install floppy discs. Turned off pc many times and works perfect
