Regarding the AWE32 CT2760 -

1. What do all of the chips do, exactly? For instance, is there something called a bus control (master?) chip?
2. I see one chip with V413 written on it. I assume that's the DSP.
3. I read discussion about the "CT1747" chip on Vogons - I can see that on the OPL chip. Is that the CT1747 that other Vogons users talk about?
4. Is the CT2760 the very first AWE32 to be made?
5. I understand the CT2760 has 3 revisions. How can I find out what revision this card is?

Thanks very much for any comments! 😀

Hello RG100, nice to see you here again, hope life's treating you well!

1. CT1745A is the same chip that was on the SB16. You can think of the AWE32 as essentially a true SB16 + E-MU chip.
Not entirely sure what CT 1748A does exactly.

2. Yes, that is DSP 4.13 (V4.13 😉 )

3. That CT1747 contains a "real" OPL3 inside it, so you don't get Creative's CQM instead.

4. I believe so, yes! Later models were numbered CT3900 and CT3980 I believe.

5. No clue, perhaps there is some sort of designation on the board itself that you missed? Rev A,B,C or Rev 1,2 or whatever.
This thread might be of some help.

CT1748 is the CSP/ASP chip nobody used. It was often removed on later AWE32/SB32 revisions as cost saving.

Creative Labs always print PCB version in the lower left corner of their cards - from Game Blaster 'til X-Fi, may be later too. Ofcourse on PCI and PCI-E cards they use lower right corner.
For example 039436 means the PCB revision is number 3 and it was signed to production on 36th week of 1994.

Hey thanks a lot guys, your help is invaluable! 😀
I just checked the Rev number, based on that really useful info, and I have a Rev 3 board. I guess that's the final Rev they made for the CT2760, and perhaps the best one, in terms of overall refinement?
