Hi Guys.

i am using 2 PIII-S 1.4 with SL6XL on my new P3TDDE, but it's just hang while i press TAB on the POST process. but if i just plug in one CPU it's fine with POST check. any thoughts ?
and BTY, even i plug in 4*1G SDRAM, only showed 3.6G on POST screen.

My hardware spec:
2* PIII-S 1.4G
4*1G SDRAM
ATI HD3850
INTEL 120G 545S SSD
.

I don't recall which s-spec Tualatins I used on my P3TDDE, but both CPUs worked. 3.2-3.6 GB of usable RAM is normal as the additional address spaces are used for expansion ROM cards, e.g. graphics.

Try the other S-spec for the Tualatin chips. It seems fuzzy in my mind, but I may recall one of my boards not liking one of the S-specs. Also ensure BIOS is the latest. This board is particular.

I would choose the P4, compared to all the other configurations it costs very little, you find them almost given away. If you don't use speed sensitive games and you don't use ISA cards I don't see why I prefer a Tualatin to a P4, for 10 € I got a 3.6Ghz P4 that is very fast.

you are right. just Tualatin is a classical processor, so just memories our past. i can afford the latest PC, as you can see, these *bull shit* are also expensive 😀

thanks for reply, mate, are you able to help me to check the s-spec of your CPUs ? i am really painful on this. one CPU is ok, insert another will be pending, i tried several times, so now have to suspect if sl6xl is not support dual CPU tech.

i even checked the memory hole and remapping setting, just try to release those memory. but cannot find them.

I no longer have this system setup.

What happens if you just use one CPU, placed in the socket that isn't registering?

using one CPU is work quite well. even any one of those two socket, i can press TAB to see the CPU/MEM checking process in POST period,
but if added the other CPU, my PC will be stuck if i press TAB.

Both CPUs are SL5XL, same frequency at 1.4GHz, from Malaysia

Did you check all jumper and BIOS settings?

You could try SL6BY or some coppermines.

Your POST screen may be measuring things in gibibytes rather than gigabytes or some such discrepancy. You should probably check your motherboard manual. Regardless, you cannot usually use more than 3 GB of RAM in a 32-bit OS.

Hi, yes. i've checked all jumpers and wondered if any dual-cpu-enabled jumber, but could not find them.
i am waiting for SL6BY, but not sure if there really are specific CPUs not support dual processor tech.

Most likely scenario is that something is defective on the motherboard. I haven't had the best luck with these Supermicro dual Tualatin boards. Took me three P3TDE boards to get one that worked reliably. Took two P3TDDE boards, and I was never fully satisfied with the 2nd. It wouldn't pass 48 hours of memtest with four 1 GB sticks of RAM.

uhhh...Those SL6XL show as Xenon 2.00 GHz PPGA604, not PIII FCPGA370. so not sure what cpu you have.
As Jorpho stated. 4Gb may not show as 4Gb on BIOS POST screen specially if you have BIOS and Video caching enabled on some boards.
On dual CPU boards the cpu's must match exactly in my experience. Double check the SL spec of both to make sure that are same.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

You might want to go through this thread for ideas: Dual PIII-S Tualatin 1.4 GHz Success Stories
If I were you, I would try as many different RAM modules and graphics cards as possible.
As far as the CPUs are concerned, you probably have SL5XL (not SL6XL). Should be absolutely fine to use them in a dual CPU system.

many thanks. yes, mine are SL5XL. i have to assume ONLY sl6by supports dual CPU tech.

for mem issue, i've double checked , no mem repapping settings, and video shadow was disabled. i've checked many video on youtube, they only showed 3.6G. i can partially accept this, but suppermicro says this board supports 4G, if so, it should show 4G, not 3.6G, even OS is unable to use 4G, but that is OS's business.

The 3.6gb thing is 100% normal.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

This is definitely not the case. The SL5XL works perfectly fine in dual CPU setups. I have several SL5XL in storage that used to run in dual CPU Compaq servers.

guys. the dual CPU works fine now. i dont know the root cause, but i replaced the video card and now cpu works fine.

for the memory, even i can understand x86 platform can only support around 3.5GB, but the manual and website mentioned it support up to 4G, which will give misunderstanding. our concept is even windows 32bit can only see 3.5G, but the hardware should be able to show 4G. or suppermicro should say, it physically can be pluggedin 4G, but BIOS/POST will show 3.6G. then that will be more clear.

How much RAM does it show if you disable all the expansion ROMs and have no expansion cards plugged except for a 512K graphics card?

I found this motherboard particularly troublesome with graphic cards. I found that the most advanced card I could use was a GeForce 4 MX, otherwise I would get MemTest errors. Which graphics card do you plan on using? I suggest running Memtest for 48 hours, especially if you intend to use 3 GB or more RAM.

hi i've disabled all potential memory keeping setting, but still shows 3.6GB .

i firstly using Palit Geforce 6600GT, and alway stuck while i pressed TAB to displaying message in POST period. then i moved to an ATI HD3850, and it's fine.
