Man, those batteries. I cannot tell you how lucky I was twice when I received a Soyo SY-4SAW2 board that also had a leaking battery and only had 3 traces that needed to get repaired, but no other damage and the 386/486DLC board also had a battery leakage, but minimal damage.

On your board, looks like a lot of grounding layer has been destroyed and only 2 pins on the 8-bit slot have corrosion, but the rest of the board looks pretty good.

got these out of my last scrap lot a while ago... the seller was very apologetic when I told them that I didn't want it for scrap but try to restore and use them and that they wouldn't have removed all the metal bits if they'd known... but oh well they were very nice and packed the cards well even though all of them had most metal parts removed and some of them were outright destroyed (connectors ripped off etc.)

luckily the ones I was after most seem to have survived more or less unscathed with just a few parts missing.

also missing bracket and one VGA connector shield, a few scratches but looks fine, idk what the bright spot on one of the vias near the PCI connector is though?

3Dfx Voodoo 3 2000? PCI! with 5.5ns SGRAM :3
not only the bracket and heatsink removed, but even the VRM heatsink, though no scratches on the PCB, which is suprising seeing in what state other cards were in, got removed carefully apparently
a few bent pins but chip looks fine, need to test all of them still.

The lower side is worse, after all it is a Desktop case. But I do think it’s repairable.

Picked up my ASI 286 PC today. Someone at Hermes logistics did have a go at several attempts to answer the question “How far can one throw a box with a computer inside?”

Fortunately the seller did a good job at packing the system, the guys at handling did only punch through two of three layers of plastic air cushions. But he also did a good job of not displaying or mentioning the damn Varta battery leaking all over the place (had to grind the corrosion down with a Dremel to get the board out of the case).

I am working on a corroded 386 motherboard right now. I let it soak in vinegar for 2 days and that cleaned up all the corrosion.
Cut off the barrel battery of course.

You’re right, it’s already repaired (bodge wires) and those ZERO WAIT mainboards are becoming rare, so definitely worth repairing.

Hehe, thanks! Have my pictures been that bad before..? Maybe if I took my mobile for it. Its a 6D mark 3 with ext. Flash. Yours are still looking better, think you take more time for it and care more about the background 😉

Not a computer, but the evolution of calculators and adding machines led directly to the advent of microprocessors so I consider them a part of the computer heritage.

Thrift store for $5. Funny bit is, I originally saw it on a Facebook auction page. Someone else wanted it more than I did and bid it beyond what I wanted to pay. 3 weeks later the same unit is at the thrift store for $5. It seems someone thought it was something else.
