VOGONS

As a project of mine I've been trying to piece together a machine that can run software in a time bracket from 1997 to 2002. My biggest stumbling block so far is that, as the title indicates, I can't get sound working in DOS applications because they do not detect the Sound Blaster 16 emulated by the drivers, neither in Win98 nor in DOS mode. I'm using the driver set that I got from Phil's Computer Lab, although I have also attempted to use the Live!Ware 3.0 CD image from the Vogons repository but the installers don't work, at least not from a virtual drive (I get no disk space errors in most of them even though I got plenty of it).

I have looked at more information on this topic here on Vogons and elsewhere, with no avail, I guess because every build is its own case. I hope it's not some kind of inherent incompatibility, such as an uncooperative chipset, as I've got a Via Apollo Pro Plus one.

The SBLive model I have is the SB0100.
Here is a report of my computer's hardware.
Here's an image album containing photos of my BIOS' settings.
Also find attached in an archive file my autoexec.bat and config.sys.

Edit 1: Forgot to add model of SBLive card.

Try my guide.

It should work on all SBLive versions except the Dell branded SB0200 which is a SBLive in name only.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Core 2 Duo E8600 / Foxconn P35AX-S / X800 / Audigy2 ZS
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 980Ti / X-Fi Titanium

What are the specs of the rest of your system?

Holy fucking hell, it actually worked! Just as a note to possible future readers, I had to do a fresh Win98 install, including a drive format.

Glad you got it working.

Reason I asked for specs is because it is much easier for people trying to help instead of having to download an attached report and look through it.

A lot of posters ask for help and provide absolutely no information about the rest of their system or what they have tried.
