As a project of mine I've been trying to piece together a machine that can run software in a time bracket from 1997 to 2002. My biggest stumbling block so far is that, as the title indicates, I can't get sound working in DOS applications because they do not detect the Sound Blaster 16 emulated by the drivers, neither in Win98 nor in DOS mode. I'm using the driver set that I got from Phil's Computer Lab, although I have also attempted to use the Live!Ware 3.0 CD image from the Vogons repository but the installers don't work, at least not from a virtual drive (I get no disk space errors in most of them even though I got plenty of it).
I have looked at more information on this topic here on Vogons and elsewhere, with no avail, I guess because every build is its own case. I hope it's not some kind of inherent incompatibility, such as an uncooperative chipset, as I've got a Via Apollo Pro Plus one.
The SBLive model I have is the SB0100.
Here is a report of my computer's hardware.
Here's an image album containing photos of my BIOS' settings.
Also find attached in an archive file my autoexec.bat and config.sys.
Edit 1: Forgot to add model of SBLive card.
