I just tested "The inner World" and you are correct, if you just archive the entire folder you can uninstall then copy the files back and it runs just fine. Though my game did install to a foler called "the inner world" maybe its just this game?

Damn it, this means you just gave me a whole bunch of archive work to do =)

Edit: I've now archived 4 games and they all named the folder after the game itself.

Note: Flashdance is an unfinished game, but has three playable levels based on the original Flashdance movie. Once at the title screen hit the "5" key to insert coins and "1" or "2" for number of players. "Enter" key seems to reset a level if you die or screw up. Arrow keys to control. On the first level avoid the oncoming cars. Get hit at least once as the death sequence is worth seeing. On the second welding level use the ARROW keys and CTRL key to clear the welding lines. The third level is unfinished and looks to be more of a video only level, but in the beginning you do try to follow the key moves. That stops early on and you just watch the video from the movie. You can see where that level was going in gameplay. Make sure to wait for the third level to end and a final scene will appear and a note from the developer.

I don't even get a option to select the Linux port. Nor is it even listed anywhere in the GOG store.

The native Linux port of UT99 is rather bad to begin with, depends on OSS /dev/dsp for sound, uses really ancient libraries, uses a old libmikmod that has a very annoying plate reverb effect that you CANNOT turn off overlayed on the already inaccurate music.

There are also a few really good mods for UT99 that depend on 3rd party DLL files, so you're better off just playing the thing under Wine...

So... Just in case anyone wasn't aware yet, the copy of Half Life 2 you get via the "time limited" trial on Steam is still seemingly DRM-free. Recently I stumbled upon (by which I mean, it was mentioned here) a really neat game called The Fertile Crescent. It's obviously inspired by the Age of Empires but with some really neat twists on gameplay mechanics. It's still in development (current version is 0.5.4) but very playable, both singleplayer on a random map and multiplayer. The pixel art style is also really well done IMO.

Exciting news! With kind permission of the creator, Edge of the Planet has been restored from oblivion and released as freeware! Well, technically it was always freeware, but it had long fallen off the internet so I decided to fix that. (And yes, I DID get in touch with the creator and get the OK before I uploaded it.)

I played this on my stream yesterday, which I'm fairly sure was the first time it's ever been streamed. It's a... uh... physics???-based puzzle platformer with a unique art style. I actually like it quite a bit; it's creative and weird.

Go grab it & play it (and post a video of the result. 😉 )

This is strictly geared for music content creators, but I thought this was a fun spin on retro gaming. If you use DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software here is a free plugin to keep you from your music. Retro Pong from Lunatic Audio.

Blizzard recently released the Arcade Collection with The Lost Vikings, Blackthorne and Rock'n'Roll Racing, so I guess those old freebie versions were removed for a reason and are no longer valid.

Thanks, I was thinking that my computer was playing tricks on me.

I was discussing this with a moderator: Blizzard seems to have "un-listed" the games (they're not listed anymore on Blizzard download page) but old links still can download the games. It's strange, because some people claims that they can still see the games on the Classic Games section but they're not available for me. Maybe they've implemented a regional lock?

So... how do you get the old games?
- Go to archive.org and put the downloads page on the wayback machine.
- Open a 2018 or early 2019 version of the page. The games will appear listed on Classic Games section.
- Try to download them (HINT: They wont!).
- The wayback machine will generate a page with the link that was intended to download the game. This is the link to the files on Blizzard server, and it still works.

Note that the Starcraft/Brood War downloader is also available, but being a downloader I don't know if it is still capable to download the files of that game.

Possibly. Downloads still work for me here in the U.S.

A lot of US sites block /hid content from EU users because of the GDPR laws (laws that a site has to tell you what they sniff of your data before you use the site).
The claim compliance it too tough.
IMHO it is greed as solutions have been around for almost 5 years...

I posted the exact same information a while ago here but I believe it was removed in one of thread clean-ups. Except I think I was able to get Wayback Machine copies of the files as well.

Otherwise the free versions don't show for me too and I have no way to find out if this is a regional thing or for all users. I discovered that they were no longer available sometime after Blizzard launched Warcraft and Diablo on GOG so I thought that they were intending to sell stuff.

But maybe the DOS versions are still free because I think the new Arcade Collection only includes the updated Definitive Editions (which I suppose run natively on Win10) and console versions of the games. Not sure.
