Quite some time ago, Llamasoft released freely distributable ROM dumps of ALL of their old software titles for the old Atari Jaguar game console.
One of the games was the Atari Jaguar version of "Tempest 2000" (note that a PC version for DOS was also released back in the day).
FIRST OF ALL, this readme directly from Llamasoft: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1004067/downloads/lla … soft/readme.txt .

SECONDLY, you'll need a ROM dump of the Atari Jaguar "Tempest 2000" game cartridge: http://www.medwaypvb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/llamadloads2.html , http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1004067/downloads/lla … Tempest2000.zip .
LASTLY, you'll need an Atari Jaguar emulator...

Personally, I like "Project Tempest v0.95" a little better, even though it isn't quite as "official" as the "Jaguar Emulator version v0.06b".

Cliffall: Treasures Of The Lost Cave is an enhanced Pitfall II style game for PC: https://aloan.000webhostapp.com/cliffall.html (the download button link is broken. use the link on the left to download)
An early build of Cliffall when it was still called Pitfall III: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgeVSDKVW0EIjjv8P69dxBjH7ADh
Final commercial build of Cliffall/Pitfall III is up and it's called Akeni, but has a small price for those interested: https://aloan.itch.io/akeni
Flashdance game (unfinished): https://aloan.000webhostapp.com/flashdance.html (game updated July 3rd, 2017)
Note: Flashdance is an unfinished game, but has three playable levels based on the original Flashdance movie. Once at the title screen hit the "5" key to insert coins and "1" or "2" for number of players. "Enter" key seems to reset a level if you die or screw up. Arrow keys to control. On the first level avoid the oncoming cars. Get hit at least once as the death sequence is worth seeing. On the second welding level use the ARROW keys and CTRL key to clear the welding lines. The third level is unfinished and looks to be more of a video only level, but in the beginning you do try to follow the key moves. That stops early on and you just watch the video from the movie. You can see where that level was going in gameplay. Make sure to wait for the third level to end and a final scene will appear and a note from the developer.

I played the DOS shareware version a while ago and liked it. A very nice tune is playing in the main menu.

I don't even get a option to select the Linux port. Nor is it even listed anywhere in the GOG store.
The native Linux port of UT99 is rather bad to begin with, depends on OSS /dev/dsp for sound, uses really ancient libraries, uses a old libmikmod that has a very annoying plate reverb effect that you CANNOT turn off overlayed on the already inaccurate music.
There are also a few really good mods for UT99 that depend on 3rd party DLL files, so you're better off just playing the thing under Wine...
MoleZ is an insanely fun (and violent and gory!) multiplayer game for DOS wherein a bunch of moles are thrown inside a cave-like arena and must fight to the death using various types of projectile weaponry. Up to three players can play on a single keyboard (+1 using joystick/gamepad). The game was originally conceived as a means of testing VESA/SVGA graphics modes and so does require a reasonably fast 486 or Pentium-class system (as well as a keyboard that can handle multiple simultaneous keypresses). It features a haunting soundtrack and respectably beefy sound effects for those with SoundBlaster-compatibles.
The control scheme takes a bit getting used to, but once you do you'll be fragging your pals late into the morning hours...

Some of you may already know about this, but I just discovered it through an article. An ASCII version of Doom (Unity Engine) and you increase the difficulty of the game by how large the font is. There's even a mono mode. Crazy.

It also looks like you can grab Unreal Tournament, the discontinued Pre-Alpha, through the Epic Games client also. I made sure to grab it, though I don't know if it will dissappear eventually since its been canceled.
For the Xbox 360 and Xbox One with an Xbox Live Gold subscription:
Race The Sun (Xbox One): Available: 11/16 – 12/15
Q.U.B.E. (Xbox One): 2 Available: 12/01 – 12/31

It seems to include all levels from the original game, Holiday versions, and More Lemmings. Not sure how this is licensed though.
Also the interface appears similar to the fan-made Lemmins game by Geoff Storey:

DosFreak wrote:Think when I consolidate all back to the first post I'd like to clarify platform and DRM status. Yeah it's free $$ wise but tied to a specific platform or service.
I totally agree with you on this, but I felt it was worth noting. I only recently became interested in the Lemmings franchise and it seems like some aspects are not well documented or at least not widely known. I was unable to determine how the free thing at the MSStore is licensed, the developer (pcio.dk) has like zero information on their site either.
On another note, the very conspicuous Lemmings clone called Hamsters is freeware (full version here), I also tracked down the original page by Gregory Taylor:

Indiegala is giving away Deponia, a point and click adventure.
Had to jump through a few hoops for this one. To get the free copy of The Witcher you have to install Gwent - a free to play card game, which requires GOG Galaxy.
I'm quite curious about this series, so the free copy was worth the hurdles for me.

Sorry, this site does not seem to be licensed by Rockstar Games to be offering this.
I understand this is to some degree the same free content that used to be here: http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/ (see web.archive.org)
But Rockstar used to require age and email submission as a requirement to download them, this site does not... plus Rockstar no longer offers them at that site.

Halloween doesn't end quite yet. Yet another amazing Silent Hill tribute on the PC. This time someone has recreated the first portion of the PS1 Silent Hill game, but in a first person perspective. According to the author this is a completed project, but still a neat concept.

K, this is pretty dang awesome! Homage to DOS EGA games and it's a ton of fun IMO. Play online or free download. Gameplay reminds me a bit of Ghosts 'n Goblins with a Redneck Rampage character overtone.

If you were lucky enough to grab this (it's not available anymore unless you become a Patreon donor) make sure to grab the "Silent Hills Cutscene map" which is free. If you are not familiar, a modder recently found a way into the outside town in the original PS4 teaser demo. That has also been recreated for us PC gamers.

So... Just in case anyone wasn't aware yet, the copy of Half Life 2 you get via the "time limited" trial on Steam is still seemingly DRM-free. I don't know if it'll delete the files or just remove it from the launcher once the trial period is up, but there's nothing stopping you from copying it to another location and running it however you like.
Note that I've only tested the Mac & Linux versions so far, but I'd be surprised if the Windows one isn't the same.

Recently I stumbled upon (by which I mean, it was mentioned here) a really neat game called The Fertile Crescent. It's obviously inspired by the Age of Empires but with some really neat twists on gameplay mechanics. It's still in development (current version is 0.5.4) but very playable, both singleplayer on a random map and multiplayer. The pixel art style is also really well done IMO.

Exciting news! With kind permission of the creator, Edge of the Planet has been restored from oblivion and released as freeware! Well, technically it was always freeware, but it had long fallen off the internet so I decided to fix that. (And yes, I DID get in touch with the creator and get the OK before I uploaded it.)
I played this on my stream yesterday, which I'm fairly sure was the first time it's ever been streamed. It's a... uh... physics???-based puzzle platformer with a unique art style. I actually like it quite a bit; it's creative and weird.
Go grab it & play it (and post a video of the result. 😉 )
This is strictly geared for music content creators, but I thought this was a fun spin on retro gaming. If you use DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software here is a free plugin to keep you from your music. Retro Pong from Lunatic Audio.
