If you want to be semantic about it, you could argue that EEPROMs were used like SSDs in some old game carts.

Yeah, I got it cheap because there is a problem with garbled video. I suspect a video ram problem. Most likely just need to re-seat the
Video dram chips or refloat the onboard dram. But in any case, worst case scenario I can just add a video card.

Ordered FireGL 8800 and FireGL 7700 (this is same as 3870 but with GDDR4 instead for bandwidth increase over GDDR3).

I hope these are made with good quality components.

I had to sell off most of my high end AGP cards at the beginning of the pandemic. Found this posted on Craigslist earlier this week and snatched it up. Works perfectly. The original owner kept it for as long as he did because he liked the artwork.

Almost all HD3870 was manufactured with GDDR4. And it only had marginally better bandwidth than GDDR3. But I'd assume the FireGL series does have higher quality components.

Most HD3870 I find are GDDR3, also which what mine is with rarely seen copper heatsink style with larger coarse spaced blower blades, unless there is a way to check the vram is GDDR4 or 3?

Ahh, about the Micron P300 100GB SSD, either that with PCI-X 3ware 4 port SATA, in PCI mode, which works with my Proliant 1500 (pentium 200 currently), really works using SATA 2 160GB Samsung hard drive or SiS 754 board.
On Proliant 1500 this combo works well with DOS partitioned as 2GB and does boot.

SP97-V needs bios firmware updated to current version asap otherwise these kills the CMOS battery dry quickly when off. This was a firmware bug and we had to do to all of the customer and new boards when our shop that I was working part time at was selling these like hot cakes, back in the day.

If I recall correctly that was 0108 or later.

I don't know. I've never seen a GDDR4 HD3870, only heard that they exist, but where I live shops never had them.

Currently I see only one up for auction locally and that's also a GDDR4 variant. And if I check eBay it seems there are much more GDDR4 variants than GDDR3.

well, along with few Radeon cards with Ruby on it, reference GeForce 6800 are among the most beautiful cards ever made, in my opinion

Back in the day, this was only one of two new purchases that allowed me to build 486 machine, The Hercules Dynamite and the earlier purchased 270MB IBM hard drive when I was in college. Video card can take 50MHz no problem.
