During covid I tried to find as much info on S370 to Slot1 slotket adapters as possible and combine the info in a somewhat comprehensible format. The resulting PDF file can be downloaded here by people who are interested:

Working here, maybe UK national firewall doesn't like it because it can share any type of file.

Yea, I went there on my mobile, big mistake. That gave my phone at least 3 different types of herpes .

*edit*

Rather than bitch and moan about that website link being analogous to a 2$ hooker, I downloaded it and re-hosted it from my google drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kpUiExJddCg9 … iew?usp=sharing

It is a very nice pdf with a massive amount of data. I would love to see it shared and if people have jumper settings to add or advise about these adapters, please do so.

*EDIT #2*

PARKE has been super busy and has been keeping the PDF updated with new info/adapters/etc the latest version is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kGgO3TJyFDTH … iew?usp=sharing

Apart from the Zippyshare thing, thanks for doing all that work! I have been thinking about making space for a Slotlket system, though I have to clear some serious room first.

After building a sketchy cable out of a Generic 9V 3A wall wart and a figure-of-8 cable from amazon, I finally got my VIC-20 running. I'm still missing keys, and have absolutely nothing to run on it, but hey, I'm only like $25 in to this system, $5 of which was the system alone.

Sketchy power adapter adaptations are my jam.

6-pin Zeos laptop PSU with bad cable? Hey, I have some heavy-duty Cat5 I can use. 4-pin obscure connector for POS 12v power supply? Well, the it's actually two pins inside both ends, so I soldered some twisted speaker wire.

And my Zenith 286 not-even-laptop? Wall wart from a box of old consumer adapters for any random device.

I keep saying I'm going to built custom compact power supplies for these old machines with huge external PSUs. I guess it's a good thing I don't get paid for this, because, well, I wouldn't be getting paid.

What's that saying, something about quick lashups lasting forever... I do have to do something better about my AST PowerExec though, two alligator clips to the battery terminals off a jumpered ATX supply is a bit iffy.

Story along that line about a microwave, sometime in late oughts, I kerbfind a microwave, bit battered looking but the relatives are always moving around and needing appliances etc.. so I grab it.. check it out at home, it's working, knock the worst dents out and clean it up, and put it in reserve. About a month later, our microwave dies. So 1st tour of duty, about 3 years, didn't see any good deals or models that appealed, finally bought a "nice" one, it lasted about 10 days past the warranty running out, just went totally dead... 2nd tour of duty for the old beater... another 3 or 4 years... during which time, it developed rust around the frame of the door, cleaned up and patched over with the aluminum metal duct tape... then the door release broke... just a plastic peg in the press button hinge sheared off, I was able to patch in a metal peg with epoxy... goes another few months... oooh, good sale on nice looking microwaves... new microwave... does about a year and 2 months and the turntable drive motor burns out... couple of months lead time for the part.. 3rd tour of duty for the old beater... another 2 years, never got round to ordering the turntable motor... this time touch wood, cross fingers, it's replacement seems to have lasted well outside the warranty... but old faithful is kept ready in the basement still, patched, scarred and fugly though it is.

Well, in my case, the Zenith may just be The Way It Is, because it's unoriginal but not dodgy.

The POS systems, well, I have 3 PSUs with cut-off cables and 6 systems, so basically I just need 3 more PSUs that are 12V and the right wattage. I can actually order the connectors, though they're really expensive, about $5 individually but I can get 10 for $13, so there will be extras. I think it's kind of crazypants that they used 4pin+ground shield for something that is literally two pins inside both the system and the PSU, but there you go.

The Zeos, well, uses the correct connector just the wrong wire. It's actually pretty low current. It is ugly, though.

I think the *goal* is that it's neat and at least reasonably correct when you're done. Maybe we don't always get there. 😀

Fixed the Versa V/50, turned out to be a blown fuse in the power section.....unfortunately I had to bodge wire it together as I don't have any SMD Fuses on hand that are easily replaceable. But it works now, and that's all that matters. So now all 4 run again, though I need a new screen for the 40EC.....or maybe I'll frankenstein one.

If I went by that guide I must've engineered my own proper fuse out of the very thin copper wire I used, 🤣 (6.3A fuse is what I replaced). 🤣

Tested the Pentium laptop that has a game pad integrated and the CD drive is totally shot, the floppy drive doesn't read squat, and the DSTN display needs to be upgraded to a TFT.

On the plus side, the ES1688F works and the BIOS keeps its settings. The floppy seeks upon the POST, but refuses to boot any diskette I insert.

It could be a lot sketchier, all things considered. I wrapped the parts where the different cables made contact individually, and the heat-shrank the outside for protection.

Strange. I don't see anything wrong with it when I upload. But via the download link (which I did not use before today) I see the crap too. Will remove the link - thanks for the warning.

Who said there was no such thing as an ATX 486?

flDqbEXprvDL049N6EsMmePh.jpg?f=user_large

Soldered a Universal ITX backplane, added my AMD Elan 520 SBC to it, added a 1GB IDE flash module and then (after some modding) stuck it in an AOpen uATX low profile case.

That modding involved making 90 degree headers that stuck outside PC104 profile into the PSU vertical instead. Very fiddly getting all the DuPont cables hooked up correctly, and actually not happy with VGA image quality at present. But it's working. Tomorrow I add networking (that SBC has an Intel PCI NIC onboard) and then get to work on the software - 64MB is too much for a lot of stuff, so this needs a big RAMdrive.

Just replaced the batteries in my iPAQ 3765 and the PCMCIA+battery backpack. Yay, no more bloating battery that distorts the screen by pressing on it when its plugged in. P1 is negative, P3 is positive, just in case anyone else wants to do the same thing. I had to plug in the iPAQ when it was disassembled and use a multimeter to find the positive voltage. Old batteries were 1500mAh or so.. new ones are 2200mAh. Should give a nice boost in run time.
