Why now they dont make CPU sockets similar for laptops and desktops? I would love to continue my trend with AMD Mobile CPU-s @ PCs. Have made AMD K6 Mobile, AMD K7 Mobile, AMD K8 Mobile @ Tower PCs and i would like to add to my collection K10 or newer, but no real options. I see very low AM3 Athlon CPUs 170U / 270U, but no faster Mobile CPU-s available for AM2/AM2+/AM3 and i see only newer lower part AM1 socket cpus. SS7 there is K6-II+/III+, K7 has Athlon XP-M versions up to 2.2GHz and for S754 we have Turion64 up to 2.4GHz with Turion64 ML-44. Yes there are newer AMD Energy Efficent Desktop CPU-s, but they are mostly 45W/65W out of the box and i like to use more up to 25W Mobile CPU-s if possible, max 35W.

AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 (15W) or Neo X2 6850e (22W)

Same CPU is inside my Asus M2A-VM motherboard and works.

AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 AM2 CPU has 15W or 9W TDP ratings?

Lowest power consumption Mobile CPU for PC is Geode NX 1500?
It takes max 9W out of the box, but its speed is also at 1000MHz.

List of AMD Mobile CPU-s

I dont think that CPU more than 35W should be named Mobile. 😀
What AMD Mobile CPU-s have you installed and used inside PC?

Socket A / Socket 754 are the best AMD Socket for Mobile CPU-s, many options to choose from and has bit higher clocked CPU-s also.
Seems that for Socket AM2 we have also higher clocked options with X2 6650e and X2 6750e, but they are not even in the Wikipedia. 😀

AMD Athlon Neo X2 6650e processor 2x2.2GHz (OPN ADD6650IAA5DO or ADD6650DOBOX)
AMD Athlon Neo X2 6750e processor 2x2.3GHz (OPN ADD6750IAA5DO or ADD6750DOBOX)
AMD Athlon Neo X2 6850e processor 2x1.8GHz (OPN ADJ6850IAA5DO or ADJ6850DOBOX)
ADD = Athlon Desktop with 35 Watt TDP
ADJ = Athlon Desktop with 22 Watt TDP

I have installed an AMD K6-2+/450 CPU on a Gigabyte GA-586ATV motherboard, had some initial struggles to get it working due to issues during POST. Still have this computer but it is currently out of rotation.

From K6-II+ all works as it should for me, your motherboard is Intel 430VX, so its need bios patching or something,
maybe change motherboard and you are good to go. K6-2+ has open multiplier so very good CPU and best for S7 /
SS7 and it can be enabled 256kb, but i leave them as they are, also dos has k6init, great Retro CPU you have there.

From K6-2+/3+ i have:
AMD-K6-II+/400ATZ L2-128KB 1.6v (used with some of my benchmarks)
AMD-K6-III+/400ATZ L2-256KB 1.6v (sealed oem cpu, i have not used it)

I got it eventually working in an unusual way: By using an older BIOS and patching it from there as the latest one (including the modded one from Jan's website) has the POST issue with these CPUs.

Thanks!

I was one of the testers of K6INIT prior the significant rewrite of the utility, the performance boost that I got was great.

Mostly using K6 with Win9x, i have not made to the dos @ K6-II+ with k6init yet,
but i know its good tool and i will be using it for sure, thanks!
