For some reason, I get this weird black artifacting around the text in Half-Life's console on version 1.0.1.6. This seems to happen in OpenGL, Direct3D and the WickedGL MiniGL wrapper.
However, running the game with the software renderer or any version of the official 3dfx MiniGL wrapper seems to not have this problem. I would totally use the 3dfx MiniGL wrapper, but as described in a previous post I made, it's prone to crashing on certain levels when texture rounding is disabled (higher texture quality), and the only solution was to either use an older OpenGL ICD from the 3dfx or use WickedGL, both of which have the aforementioned console text problem.
Normally, I wouldn't care about this sort of thing if it only affected the console, but these text graphics are also used in multiplayer for the kill feed and text chat.
For context, I'm running on a Voodoo 3 2000. I didn't have this problem with my Geforce3 Ti 500 on my XP machine, so I can only assume it's 3dfx-related (Voodoo3 and later, maybe?).
If anyone knows what could be causing the problem and/or a way to fix it, don't hesitate to share.
