Hi there,

I came across this P4P800 Deluxe, but I am not sure what to make of it. It's described as working, but there's a bunch of white stuff around the CPU socket (thermal paste?), and it looks like they took the chipset cooler and placed on top of the socket.

I would appreciate the community's opinion on it. Is this worth cleaning, or might it be too tarnished? This is the one and only picture I am privy to:

Thanks.

Looks OK, but not really clear enough to be definitive.

Looks like 2 of the 4 chipset cooler mount points (closest to the AGP slot) are missing.

Good catch, thank you for pointing out the mounting points. I'll have to pass then.

Those are easily fixed, so if the price is right that shouldn't stop you. My Epox 8KRA2+ uses those, and one popped off one evening while the computer wasn't in use. I heard a noise inside the case, and when I opened it up the northbridge cooler was lying on the bottom of the case; finding that hoop was a challenge, but it was in there. Easily soldered back in place.

A lot of times when you first start out on a project you think, This is never going to be finished. But then it is, and you think, Wow, it wasn't even worth it. - Jack Handey

I'd definitely pass on it, who knows what the CPU socket looks like under there...

It's quite cheap. About $30 USD not including shipping. But after doing some research, there's also the issue of most Asus P4P boards having manufacturing defects/short lifespans. Ah well. Thank you for your input though.
