Hello. I have a question.
1. I recently acquired a used Quadro FX 1100, which I believe originally came with an HP system.
I understand the Device ID for the Quadro FX 1100 to be 10DE (Nvidia) for the vendor and 034E for the device itself. However, no matter which version of nvflash I use, it consistently reports the ID as 10DE:034A.
As a result, the Nvidia driver setup program fails to automatically detect the card when I try to install driver version 56.64; I have to manually specify it as an FX 1100 or FX 5700.
(There are no functional issues, but it appears as "Unknown" in the Nvidia driver control panel.)
I also tried flashing various other BIOS versions (such as those found on Whitebunny and Theretroweb), but all attempts failed.
Finally, I attempted to modify the card by calculating the strap settings, but I ended up in a situation where the graphics card is no longer recognized by the system at all.
2. I’m seeing this same issue with a PCI graphics card I bought on eBay. It’s a GeForce2 MX400 PCI (the chip itself is clearly marked "MX400"), but the driver identifies it as an MX100/200. It functions perfectly fine, though. I tried a few times to get it recognized correctly but eventually just gave up.
I recall reading on Vogons that the Device ID is determined by the arrangement of resistors around the chip—is that correct? What can I do to make the name display correctly (so the driver automatically recognizes the chip properly)?
