As Math97 mentioned there's lots of stuff you can run. I've noticed that there is software does require 386 enhanced mode, mIRC for instance. It runs fine on my 386 running wfw 3.11 but not the 286 in standard mode in win3.1.
WS_IRC is an irc client that works in Windows 3.1 in standard mode. To use it you need a network card, packet driver, winpkt and trumpet winsock. WS_FTP works I understand as do the telnet and ftp clients from Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Works well on my 286/12. I use PFS:WindowsWorks on it because I didn't have any luck installing MS Works or Claris Works which I suspect is be because of the same reason mIRC wouldn't run.
There's a glitch in the matrix.

Apparently 32-bit is dead and nobody likes P4s.
Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉
