I just found and bought a brand new, sealed INTEL DX4-100 Overdrive for 20USD.

I was wondering if I can use it to upgrade my IBM PS/1 2133 system that currently sports INTEL SX-25 processor. There is an upgrade socket on the motherboard, but I suppose it was not designed to run such a :modern: CPU.

I can't even guess if it has any voltage regulator and I woun't get it burnt by trying out. I am aware that upgrading to 100mhz is pointless to some extent, as this rig does not have anything better than built-in or ISA graphics, but still would like to try. Btw. I also wonder if the built-in cirrus will suffer from the same ISA bus limitations as any external ISA card?

Here is the photo of my buy:

Won't hurt to give it a try since the board has the overdrive socket, be sure to check for jumpers and set things before you do the upgrade.

Yes, I'm going to give it a try. I can see, however, that as my CPU is i486 sx-25, the mobo would rather accept i486 dx4 that runs @ 75. The good thing is that this website confirms that i486 dx4 overdrive that I have purchased is made to work with 5 volts motherboards, so it probably has some voltage regulator built in. This site confirms it: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/486-overdrive/
