Hi all

I’d like to identify my first soundcard maybe you can help.
It was bought and boxed as Escom Multimedia soundcard (16). Escom was a German PC shop chain that time.

The card was 16bit and showed all compatibility modes similar to Aztech nx pro 16 including wss, covox, dss and Sbpro. Quite long card isa including volume control wheel.

It was lacking an mpu401 though. I remember when testing audio settings it was always played: Multimedia soundcard” as sample. I also remember some names like mmsound16 or mmpro16....

I know that’s little but maybe ... you never know.
Thank you.

It probably was an OEM-ed Aztech card. Escom also had a version of the triangular azt2030, similar to Hewlett-Packard.

Thanks a lot. I am looking all over the internet for finding at least a picture of the card or better the box but no chance. So I have maybe to go through all existing nx pro 16 card variants to see. It was full isa length. Not as long as the lapc-I but longer then most sb16s

It was most definitely an Aztech card if it supported all those standards.

See here for the Aztech Sound Galaxy thread. You should be able to find pictures of any of the models listed there... It would have been a first gen card with the 0592-U01 chip.

Yes thanks a lot. That should fit indeed. Next task: find one to complete my system. I remember I sold my one before switching to a Miro PCM OPL4 soundcard (which remained only short time in my system)

0592-U01 and a separate Crystal CS4248 or AD1848 codec as he mentions WSS support.

That narrows it down to:
MMSN803 NX Pro 16
MMSN810 Basic 16 (also called Pro 16 sometimes)

Essentially they're the same card, the difference is that the 803 has SCSI, where the 810 doesn't. Either way they're highly recommended, the best cards from Aztech's first gen. Only downside is lack of MPU-401.

that's not SCSI, that's an "expansion port", the NX PRO extra had SCSI ^^

What’s that expansion port for?
