Looking to pick up a DOS era laptop. My preferences would be, in order of importance:
- Compatibility with DOS games roughly early to mid 90s. Commander keen, monster bash, duke nukem 3d, nothing newer or older than this. The older stuff is most important.
- Decent sound. I don't need the best, really just need the sound to work in DOS and not be exceptionally bad.
- Decent scaling so I can play older games and not have a huge black border around the screen.
- Reasonably priced. I'd like to get a toshiba libretto for example, but an untested one is $200 on ebay, good condition much higher. Not looking to spend that much if possible.
- Not too chunky... relatively speaking, obviously. I also like how the Libretto is a bit smaller since it leaves out the touchpad.
- Easy to find parts. Again, relatively speaking.
Any suggestions? I've read a number of the threads here but the selection is pretty overwhelming and I'm having a hard time narrowing down a list of models.
Looking at a Dell CPI D series. Not sure if this is the best but if it's workable the fact that the parts are interchangeable with C series Dells is a huge plus as I have a pile of CPX/C600 laptops and lots of parts for them. Seen a couple recommendations for a NEC Versa M/75 but I am reading conflicting info on DOS sound on these.
