I'm curious if your board supports DMA on the ISA slot. My board is very similar but has a PC87200VUL PCI-ISA bridge chip. Yours has a Winbond W83628, which is supposed to be compatible, but I've heard that it can have problems with some ISA sound cards. I don't have any boards with this Windbond chip, so I can't confirm.
imi wrote on 2022-03-28, 00:06:i845
from what I could find it is AGP 4x
It's probably not compatible with AGP 2x cards however. Not with this particular chipset (and i865)
Seems to be AGP UNIVERSAL 2X/4X SLOT according to this...
RetroPC: K6-III+/400ATZ @6x83@1.7V / CT-5SIM / 2x 64M SDR / 40G HDD / RIVA TNT / V2 SLI / CT4520
ModernPC: Phenom II 910e @ 3GHz / ALiveDual-eSATA2 / 4x 2GB DDR-II / 512G SSD / 750G HDD / RX470
yeah that datasheet was the only thing I found outside of the internet archive ^^ but no it most certainly is not universal, it's keyed only for 1,5V and a 3,3V card that is keyed correctly will not fit and a 3,3V that is keyed universal will destroy the board as like Tetrium said the 845 chipset is incompatible with 3,3V signaling (you can find a few warnings against certain cards online)

in theory it should, it is actually the smaller W83629 chip below that is needed for DMA functionality iirc from the last time I read up about it, and ICH2 should support DMA no problem afaik, so if it's implemented correctly it should work.
You are right. May be the statement from the schematic is meant from a VGA card's perspective as AGP 4x/1.5V cards with universal keying are said to be AGP 2x/3.3V compatible.
Yet somewhat confusing.
Besides that, I've never seen a PCI-to-ISA bridge function implemented with an additional IC.

Well.... It finally arrived in the weekend. The bad part, is that it does not seem to support power from ZorroBus (with a hardware mod that is) and it came without any PSU (I knew that in advance). So I have no way of testing before I can find an original PSU or find a way to build one. But I kind of found the product name funny. Made me think of this (youtube-link) song....

It's amazing how they got a whole 16MB in under 250W power consumption really.
Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Hirsch wrote on 2022-01-05, 00:14:I got these four Plextor PX-760A PATA drives today. One needed a lens cleaning. All work fine and are flashed to the latest RPC1 firmware now. This and the SATA version PX-760SA are the last drives made by Plextor. (The successors were made by various OEMs like Pioneer.)
Question regarding plextors....
I have a 760A too and I was looking for the firmware upgrade (if any) and plextor software to go with it, can you point me in the right direction for them? I installed plextor tools on my windows xp machine but they refused to work, can't remember the version though.
thanks!
I haven't installed the PlexTools Professional right now. I'll check this and write an update, later. Regarding the RPC-1 Firmware I can provide some information:
First of all you'll need the original firmware since it contains an executable for flashing:
https://www.firmwarehq.com/download_229-file_ … 60A107.exe.htmlDownload the file 760A107.exe and extract it to a folder using 7-Zip. The folder will contain 3 files:
eme_107.bin
PlexFirm.ini
PXFirm3.exeDownload 1_08Xrpc1.bin and copy it to the same folder:
http://www.oocities.org/de/linux_piewie/download/Edit PlexFirm.ini and change entry FirmwareFileName to 1_08Xrpc1.bin.
Run PXFirm3.exe and flash the drive.
The Firmware 1_08Xrpc1.bin works on the IDE (Plextor PX-760A) and SATA (Plextor PX-760SA) version. I've done this myself and can confirm that it works. (The file name is a little bit misleading, it contains the RPC-1 patched latest firmware 1.07 for Plextor PX-760A and Plextor PX-760SA.)[/details]
Much appreciated

Wonder what computer they originally belonged to.
Could you post a better picture of the 5 chips on the back, can't quite make out all the numbers on the chips.
and...
Booo. No parity ! 😁

dude, is that even legal?
Do those fit in many systems or were they only used for some high end special purpose like industrial machinery or some printer systems that cost as much as a small house?
I like jumpers.

They are for sure some kind of proprietary setup, never heard of the Dove Computer Corporation either.
Pretty cool looking modules, I wonder if they could be made to work in a normal board.

Seems to be some Mac II PAL SIMMs

They made alot of stuff for Apple machines. I bet these modules also were designed for some of the Apple Macintosh computers. Thanks to guys at Vintage Computer group of Facebook we figured out what's the purpose of the PAL (address decoding because chips are 1-bit) and probable use for the jumpers (selection of the chip size - because chips are actually socketed and module can be repopulated with different size of chips - I guess in the current configuration they are maxed-out at 4MB each). As for the chips on the back - they are just buffers and terminating resistors...
And yeah, they are heavy and will put strain on the sockets so it's best to use them on sockets with metal clips or the heavy duty-slot style sockets...

So you are the one that won the eBay auction.
I was kinda wanting them for the lulz.

I have seen similar SIMMs in the past, but not like this with a double row xD
Very impressive.

I can imagine this for sure 🙂
I will use them in some outrageous 386/486 build on my channel.

Areca ARC-1160 S-ATA RAID controller.
PCI-X with 16 channels.
At least the great aunt of all RAID controllers.

512 MB cache memory, so German, it is Swiss.
Not sure what the RJ45 on the backplate was supposed to do.
Also, rather uneventful "Prolink NVG11A" Gf2 MX-400 with Chrontel TV chip and native s-video port. Bent, but unbroken.
