Ideally, ultrasonic bath. Most half decent electronic repair shops will have one and will probably let you use it free/cheap

Are you not concerned over the toxins from the motherboard leaching off into your dishwasher? Circuit boards have some nasty stuff in them. I wouldn't want to have those come into contact with stuff I eat from.

no. your dishwasher should fully drain, every time its used.

Worst case scenario - run the machine empty with a machine cleaner.

I understand that the dishwasher would drain fully and that the water would dilute the pollutants. However, draining alone won't necessarily mean that any toxin is no longer present. Having hard water will show that some stuff can get left behind and that's just stuff you can see afterwards. Still, it's probably a good idea to run the dishwasher without any utensils or dishes if you are going to put electronics in there.

Never made anything worse. Revived several.
It's just hot water.
Sure, hard water can potentially be an issue, and it's not as ideal as the factory distilled water, but that can be mitigated by rinsing in isopropyl if you're paranoid.

No soap as in bar soap, but detergents are normal stuff in industrial applications (cleaning pcbs).

Another one would be if any residues or contaminants are left over, even if the dishwasher doesn't reuse water. I've never used a dishwasher that was 100% effective at cleaning everything that I've had on a plate. While the levels wouldn't likely be that high, I'd still be concerned over any long-term health impacts from repeated exposure. If enough people did this sort of thing, it probably wouldn't be great for the local wastewater treatment system either. I don't want to start a flame war or anything, but I thought my original comment was a reasonable health concern. Judging by the size of the average backlog, I think most people here would benefit from a few extra healthy years in their life. (-:

I prefer the hand wash method with a mild detergent. That way I can inspect the board as I clean it.

Did you test the board without a bios battery? I've had a lot of boards act dead until I installed a bios battery. I've also had boards behave in very strange ways with dead/missing/low batteries. I'd install one before declaring the board dead.

I'd try sanding the BIOS pins with a piece of sandpaper to remove some of the corrosion. The BIOS chip' pins look pretty awful.

I could try, would have to get the chip out without destroying it though, whats the best way to pop it out? Flat head screw driver?
