Rage3 is the Rage Pro family, Rage6 (later R100) is Radeon.
3D Rage = Rage1 with DirectX 5
Rage II = Rage2 with DirectX 5
Rage Pro = Rage3 with DirectX 6
Rage 128 = Rage4 with DirectX 6
Radeon = Rage6 with DirectX 7

7200 is based on RV200 not R200. AFAIK RV200 is based on R100 but it's not dumbed down version but the opposite, a small update and a newer process. The R200 got dumbed down to RV250 and RV280 later on. But yeah, the rename of the original Radeon series happened when ATI created the next chip in 2001 and had to either come up with a new name, or start some numbering system. They've picked the latter and created 8500, and the R100 and RV200 chips were renamed to 7200 in the process.
And then there was the 9000 series where things really got confusing...

Yes, I have a PCI Radeon 7200 SDR that has a Rage 6 sticker on the back - it looks like the Rage 6 naming is limited to early production runs of the Radeon 7200.

Hi, welcome to the mess that was ATIs naming scheme ...just wait till you realise all this goes out the damn door when you include the OEM partner parts that are using refference PCBs but refuse to run with official ATI drivers because the OEM part have slightly different PCI Device IDs.
Early ATi was a bloody mess with naming and part identification.
But that's why we retro buffs love them .. its fun trying to head cannon each card model and which family it belongs to and which drivers it will and wont work with.

The difference you see is SDRAM vs SGRAM. SGRAM modules are bigger 😀.
The Rage 6 cards you linked to are DDR-SDRAM (RAM part number HY5DV651622). The first link is a card with a Rage 6 sticker and no Radeon logo printed on the back. It has a PCB dated 11th 2000. I guess this is before the name Radeon was known in public 😀. Since it’s such an early card I named it Rage 6. A few of the later models/samples I have are named accordingly to the complex naming scheme 😜. So the second card you linked to named ATi Radeon 64MB DDR Elite since in it’s day it would be called a Radeon 64 DDR and Elite is the ‘subname’ that was probably devised by the engineers at the time who wanted to build a faster version.

I've bought a 7200 or Radeon DDR, it's dated 2000, at least on the PCB. But I believe the thicker heatsink indicates it's a 7200. The original DDR has the thin one, right?
Memories are 6ns I believe. Hard to say from the pictures (I haven't received it yet).
Can you make sense of the sticker? No mention of 7200. R6 is present though.

That's indeed the case. I bought a "Radeon SDR" card in September 2001. At some point in time, after a driver update, the name in the Windows 98 device manager changed from "Radeon SDR" to "Radeon 7200 series" or something like that. I think it makes perfect sense to have numbers in all Radeon cards, so to avoid confusion, it made sense to rebrand the "Radeon VE" as "Radeon 7000" and the "Radeon" (no qualification) as "Radeon 7200", placing both cards below the next-generation Radeon 7500.

Here's as far as I got on cataloging the Rage 6 / Radeon Series. It's tough because this is when the OEM's really started to flood in and ATI was changing names on boards and using the same name for multiple boards / chips. I have not looked at this in a bit.

Wow, such a confusing mess with different memory types and capacities as well as AGP and PCI variants.
I ordered a 32MB SGRAM variant yesterday so I'm looking forward to comparing the 3 memory types against each other. Although, my DDR card is 64MB so it has a slight advantage.

I've checked just from curiosity first Radeon in table

and unfortunately, it has DDR SDRAM. So common DDR1 modules. Not SGRAM. So even first line in table has already mistake. 😀 I doubt they ever made SGRAM Radeon 7000, 🤣. As it was ultra budget card, that was late to catch even Geforce 2 MX. They even didn't try to catch performance with it, it lost with 9 months earlier Geforce 2 MX (Hardware T&L, + double pipeline)

Also, that Radeon (rage 6 , R100) on previous picture most probably doesn't have SGRAM. But DDR too - just in different package. Same that was often used for SGRAM. It's 32-bit DDR memory chip.
Lets take as example this Radeon All-in-Wonder which has same looking memory chips... I doubt they ever attach better memory modules than on overpriced AIO cards. So if this Radeon doesn't have SGRAM, I doubt common Radeon/7200 will have them.

Datasheets tells us again, that they are normal DDR SDRAM modules with 32-bit data bus.

The reason, why they look like SGRAM is, that they are in 100-pin TOFR (Thin Outline Fine-Pitch Rectangular) package.
Here is another example, that "SG32M" on R6 cards (first Radeons) doesn't stand for SGRAM type of memory. And "SD32M" is not automatically SDRAM, although it can be. Maybe it's more like type of package, not type of memory.
I've found another Radeon, this time not All-in-Wonder, but common Radeon R100 DDR, marked on sticker with SG32M, yes, it suggest that SG means SGRAM and SD SDRAM, but it has actually 32-bit DDR SDRAM memory chips in PQFP100 package. So not standard TSOP, but still DDR SDRAM, not DDR SGRAM or SGRAM.
