Those sidewinder wheels (even the force feedback ones) are dirt cheap on ebay. I couldn't resist getting both the wheel and the Force Feedback Joystick.

NFS Porsche runs fine also on PIII 900, so it will run fine on any Athlon XP.

As for Voodoo 2, I have it but never use it. I got it for like €10 after persuading a pensioner it isn't that useful because VGA cable is missing, drivers are hard to find, not sure if it works etc. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy it.

I got a Logitech Force 3d pro not long ago. It's a decent force feedback joystick. It's well supported as it's quite old.

I might get one. I have a Logitech force feedback wheel that I think is old enough to work on win98 but I’ve yet to actually try it

Yeah i posted that before I read further. The system seems great.

I had some time today to install the Audigy 2 ZS

However it is “detected” even less than the Audigy 1. It neither shows up in device manager nor in the PCI device list.

I tried to flash the motherboard to an alternative bios version which was problematic. It was running 1018.004 beta and I wanted to flash to 1017. Uniflash reported verification errors and I almost left myself needing a chip programmer, but I was able to do a successful flash without rebooting using the utility off the ASUS website; where the motherboard still has support/downloads. Quite impressive considering its age

This did not solve the issue unfortunately. But it did fix another issue in the bios reporting the multiplier incorrectly. A minor win, but something to make me think I’m best sticking with an earlier bios than the beta one

I thought I should try some other pci cards to see what happened with them. I tried an Intel network card and a via ide/Sata card and both were detected and appear to be functioning.

Christ I knew via chipsets and creative cards didn’t get on, but this is crazy!

I am fairly sure the issue is with the southbridge chip as there have been several issues intermittently appearing and disappearing in device manager with USB root hubs, and with the primary ide controller. None of these seem to be causing stability issues, but obviously not being able to have audio is a bit of a deal breaker.

Have you tried the card in different slots? Sometimes that can help.

Yeah I tried all 3 of the slots I could use without changing to a different GPU, and there was no difference

Since my last post, I got the card to show up in device manager. I flashed to bios 1016 and then i could at least see it in device manager, but it’s still missing from the PCI device list and won’t work without an IRQ assignment. I can force an IRQ onto the slot it’s in, but it makes no difference.

The onboard USB 2.0 controller isn’t working, it has the same symptoms; reporting an error in device manager (no IRQ assigned by BIOS) and missing from the PCI device list

The onboard Audio was disabled by a jumper. I tried enabling it and again, same symptoms - no sign of it in PCI device list but I can see it in device manager

These are all running through the PCI bus on the southbridge. I’ve no idea why the two other add-in cards I tried
work fine though 🤷🏼‍♂️

So, what now? New motherboard?

Well, I never managed to sell the KT133A board. It is still for sale, but I didn’t want to take any less than what it owed me. I put it back to standard and built it up as a complete system with bits I accumulated during these builds and it works just fine now. It’s now running the 2000+ Palomino that came in the A7v333. It looks like it’s earned a stay of execution!
