My issue is my retro setups rely heavily on crts , I'm currently in the process or repairing a nec multisync 1401 (the original) which has a failing flyback given its nearly 40 years old.

All my setups are kind of exotic in nature and rely on specific substitutes , and it was a pain to acquire all these monitors and price has only gone up since then , not to mention inflation and shipping going up because of external factors.

I've already had to do an number of other repairs , like the NEC already had a switch IC fail and had to repair that , the phillips screen needed a flyback swap and HOT swap.

In theory i could substitute the VGA based computers with LCDs or something , but i use Voodoo cards and those can be a be bit picky with what screen they work with.

The Amiga is trickier since it needs 15Khz horizontal scan which most screens don't do.

The Japanese Computers though are an totally different ballgame of pain in the ass , they need proper Multisyncs.

The X68000 is a bit easier than the Towns since it needs only 15khz and 31khz depending on the game you might need either.

But the FM Towns needs all three as the boot screen and text modes want 24khz.
As nice a nice bonus i managed to get the FM Towns monitor to connect to a Neo Geo AES with a XNEO-1 RGB/S adaptor made by Micomsoft.
So if that screen failed it would complicate stuff quite a bit with how i have things organised.

Also getting replacements parts for the 536 could be tricky since it was a Japan only monitor and it was kind proprietary to Towns Systems parts wise.
And although its secretly a low-middle range Sony Trinitron PVM inside (same tube as Sony PVM-1341) it could have a proprietary flyback so i don't know if it would be possible to acquire replacement parts which are getting more expensive and harder to source.

I do have an XRGB that i got for a backup solution for the Neo Geo but the image is a bit washed out ,then there's the other issue that a modern flat screen display might kill the aesthetics of the setup as well and look out of place.

That said if someone has a more reasonable setup than mine it should be possible to use OSSC devices and LCDs or OLED displays but i have painted myself into a pretty tricky corner over with all the weird edge cases I have to juggle with so I'm not really sure I've got a good solution for replacement for my given situation.

A good, late, "high-end" CRT monitor is much better at handling analog video input compared to any LCD.
LCDs are built around digital video input (dvi, dp, ...) while nalog signal handling (vga, ega cga herc) is in the row "legacy support".
Makes a big difference when exploring wide range of isa/vlb graphics cards, video resolutions and refresh rates.

Gosh I hate LCDs. I went from CRT to plasma to Oled for my main TV at home, I had to have a couple of LCDs for my main PC but got oled now there too

I’m using a Dell P2425 for my socket 7 and socket A systems (both connected to it, one via vga and one via dvi/hdmi) running dos/w98. It’s a 1920 x 1200 monitor so there are a lot of resolutions that have perfect pixel alignment in either fullscreen or 4:3 mode. (I don’t mind 320 x 200 or 640 x 400 in 16:10) And it has a refresh rate of 100Hz. All good you might be thinking but I don’t like the way it picks up ambient light reflections and the viewing angles aren’t great.

I was considering trying to get a dell 2007fpb, but these are coming up on 20 years old now, and, as they are well regarded, expensive.

What I think I want is a smallish (20”?) oled that can handle vga but has a high enough resolution that pixel alignment doesn’t matter
