But take a socket, for example – especially in a small batch, say 20–50 pieces. I wonder what the price is these days and where they come from.

Pheonix Enterprises in the US sells various sockets including Socket 370. They are about $10 USD apiece.

I've also bought other types of sockets off random sellers on Ebay.

From the website ...

"The prices on this page are rough estimates calculated using current information and include a safety margin. If these prices change, they will very likely get cheaper. The final price also heavily depends on the interest I receive."

I’ve always wondered where components that were discontinued 20–30 years ago come from.
Obviously, someone might find one or two… or even ten microchips in their storeroom.
But take a socket, for example – especially in a small batch, say 20–50 pieces. I wonder what the price is these days and where they come from.

Holy shizzle, just saw this in my youtube page. This looks awesome. I have a 440BX 100MHz fsb and 133 MHz fsb and a 1.4GHz PIII-S sitting idle for years. What will be the price of this?
Throttleblaster, nice, can it be front face mounted on case

...and the 133fsb turns out to be an oem GA-6CXC rev 3.1 intel 820 with sd ram and the MCH chipset 😒 reading its an unstable platform....

Looking forward to pushing my slot 1 CT-6BTA3 and tualatin to 1.05ghz @ 100fsb. Really want to give this platform the space to stretch its legs as I only have access to 700MHz piii cpu

Hmmm. Didn't realize that it lacked a VRM. I have an old BX board that doesn't have a lot of voltage tweaks. https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/intel- … -mount-prospect
Probably out of luck there.

https://bitsundbolts.github.io/HAWK370_Interest/

CPU SUPPORT - THE WHOLE SOCKET 370 LINEUP, ONE BOARD

  • Premium Gold Connector - Hard gold plated edge connector
  • Tested FSB - 155 MHz (MSI BX Master)
  • Socket ZIF - Socket 370 (new)
  • Status - Final prototype in verification
  • Requirements for Tualatin/VIA C3 - MB VRM 1.5V and compatible BIOS
  • WARNING HAWK 370 does not have a VRM

optional: throttle control & live monitoring
HAWK 370 has reserved footprints for an ESP32-C3, so you can add software CPU throttling and live rail monitoring later.

  • CPU throttle control - Adjusts effective CPU speed via STPCLK, from software
  • Live rail monitoring - Real-time VCORE and VTT readouts
  • Interface - Local web UI over Wi-Fi - no app or account
  • Firmware - Fully open source
  • Firmware status - Early - v0.1, under development
  • ESP32-C3 module - Not included - solder-on footprint only

Here's a video of the throttle control-

instead of serial 😮
At least its local and not going over internet, just lan and your wireless router 😀 not to mention leaving space for user solderable $5 + shipping module instead of ordering it already populated with 3232 and one of $0.5 microcontrollers (ATTINY202/STM32C0/MSPM0C), not even talking about almost free $0.03 PADAUK 8bit ones.

I wouldn't want it populated with that garbage. It should be optional for those of use who think it is stupid

watched whole vid, looks like minimum soldering, which is ok

Totally support the project, and will order at least one. Here's idea for a new project, after this one is stable/released: Socket8 slot-1 adapter.
