No GPU-z because this OS doesn't support it 😀
No CPU-z because this hardware "breaks" .vxd driver it uses (ie. BSOD when checking CPU) 😁
GPU was at 650/1700MHz

Ok one minor nitpick as I was browsing through some old articles. The last Athlon to release in 1999 was the Athlon 800 (512KB). So that should be allowed on the 1999 cpu side.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/424

December 20, 1999 article

"As if that were not excessive enough, with rumors that Intel was going to start sampling their Pentium III based on the new Coppermine core in 750MHz and 800MHz flavors, AMD was pressured to release data on their competing product early. And thus we have our review of the AMD Athlon 800."

Tech sites often get their review hardware before it's actually available to consumers. For this reason, I don't count hardware as released until it is available to purchase in retail channels. The same article does mention: "The Athlon 800 will make its official shipping introduction sometime in January ... ." Personally, I'd also look into the retail availability of the GeForce256 DDR during that last week in December to determine release.

Then the Pentium-3 800EB shouldn't be included, because it was launched on the exact same day - Dec 20, 1999. Should just go with launch date, unless there is a huge discrepancy between launch and availability.

Thanks for the benchies.

Wasn't the DDR version of GeForce 256 released in 2000, though?

Late 1999. Like literally last week of December.

Too bad the FX 5800 Ultra didn't make the cut into 2002.

My Creative Annihilator Pro were bought on December 23rd 1999, so it were available at least a week before the last.

Testing something quite rare, so tried Q3 too.
Trident Blade XP 32MB AGP clocked at 166/166MHz - 11FPS

Tested on Athlon XP 2200+, Soltek SL75-KAV (Via KT133A), 512MB SDR CL3

That is probably only Blade T64, right?

Just tested mine XP to be sure. It does 18.1/15.6 fps bilinear/trilinear.
Win 98, Pentium III 1400, i815, 133 MHz RAM CL3. Had to use AGP 2x to get it stable.

Geforce 3+ supposedly accelerates curved surfaces, but does Quake 3 leverage this feature without intervention?

Do not refrain from refusing to stop hindering yourself from the opposite of watching nothing other than that which is by no means porn.

Alright, few benchmarks from me. For now, only stock results, I will overclock the system in the future, and also finally install XP on it and try it there.

Both systems were identical, just swapped card between runs. Also I benchmark in 32-bit colors full screen (since running in window really tanked the performance, especially on V4), just put it into windowed mode after run because of screenshots.

304.0 FPS, Radeon 9500 @ 9700 (softmod, stock) @ 275/540 MHz (3.10), Pentium E6500K (stock) @ 2.93 GHz, ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 (PT880 Ultra), 256MB DDR RAM, Win 98SE
Q3_9500_1.jpg
Q3_9500_2.jpg

39.2 FPS, Voodoo4 4500 AGP (stock) @ 166/166 MHz (1.04.01b), Pentium E6500K (stock) @ 2.93 GHz, ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 (PT880 Ultra), 256MB DDR RAM, Win 98SE
Q3_4500_1.jpg
Q3_4500_2.jpg

And two more runs just for fun, one on my main desktop, and one on my work laptop. Both run in windowed mode, because it doesn't really matter.

932.1 FPS, Radeon RX470 @ 1250/1825 MHz (17.12.1), Core i5 6500 (stock) @ 3.2 GHz, Gigabyte GA-H170-HD3 DDR3 (H170), 16GB DDR3 RAM 1600 MHz, Win 10 x64

292.3 FPS, Intel HD620 @ 1100/1067 MHz (22.20.16.4749), Core i5 7300U (stock) @ 2.6 GHz, Lenovo ThinkPad T470, 8GB DDR4 RAM, Win 10 x64

207.8 FPS, PIII-S @ 1575 MHz, 2GB DDR 300, GeForce 6800GT, X-Fi, WinXP-SP3
Running neck and neck with my 9800 Pro. I thought the 6800GT would gain a few FPS because of nVidia's better GL driver, but I guess it's just too CPU-bound to matter.

Here's another PIII. In terms of FPS per MHz, Q3A is showing nearly perfect performance scaling!

That near-perfect scaling I was seeing before just went out the window. The 9800 Pro and XP-SP3 are a little on the heavy side for a 300MHz Klamath, but I used them to keep things consistent.
31.4 FPS, PII-300, 384MB PC66, Radeon 9800 Pro, SB Live, XP-SP3.

More scores to report; I upgraded the CPU from PIII-450 to PIII-700 and the RAM from 256 to 512MB and got a.. rather marginal performance boost to 43.5fps, rather disappointing:

43.5 FPS, appiah4, Voodoo3 3000 AGP, Pentium III 700, 440BX, 512MB PC133, WinMe

Demo001, 1600x1200 maxed = 991.3 fps

8700K 4.7GHz, DDR4-3000, GTX 1070

I also got like 5720 fps staring at a corner in UT99. 🤣 What a far cry to the days 640x480 HL1 was a slideshow on software rendering with K6-2 500 and barely 30fps @ 1024x768 with a TNT1.

This was on my 4coredual-sata2 board with a core2 x6800@3.2 with 4gigs of ddr2@533 and a radeon x800pro. The x800pro has the full 16 pipelines enabled but its running at x800pro default clocks. I'm running the omega 38413 drivers. I lost about 100fps running the game in a window.
