I refuse to use the garbage tier 60 gpus from Nvidia, both the 3060 and 4060 are over priced for the pittance of vram they have.

The B580 was cheaper than either of them and has more vram and happily beats either for non DLSS performance.

Intel actually makes good GPUs, nvidia make great features but is stuck in 8gb vram land for its budget cards.

Yeah two points I can understand there but not sure about the vram.

There seems to be a big push for team blue video cards right now, they are very much the underdog in vouge now but Im not sure why.

Possibly because everyone is fed up of the duopoly, or arguably even the monopoly of the current AIB gpu market?

That one thing is anoying me more than anything else, the market is stagnant and the top end of the market is a one horse race which is boring to say the least.
The retro crowd know how interesting a seller rich market can be.
AMD seems to be aiming mostly at the mid range with some rather compelling if confusing cards but the whole market needs a shake up but by Intel?!?

The 3060 has 12 gigs of vram. It's the 3060ti that's has to stupid 8 gigs of vram.

Yes yes lets give the slowest weakest of the 3060s 12gb of Vram . .cause bigger must mean better right ... nope wrong, its nothing more than a overclocked 3050. Nvidia does this because gullible people buy these cards thinking bigger is better but the 8Gb models runs circles around the 12Gb versions due to the bigger memory bus, faster Vram and better core clocks. (The 3060 12Gb doesn't even have enough GPU power to utilize the full 12Gb it has, that how anemic it is)

Have seen Nvidia do this before and they didn't fool me then and they wont now, all their recent 60 series cards are garbage...especially the 5060 which has no right to even exist.

And people keep buying this garbage from nVidia, its why I switched to Intel at least I know they are trying to fuck me and are nice enough to let me know first.

The last good 60 series from them was the 2060 Super which was good for what it was meant to be, was quite the little power house that one.

I see this carries on from earlier.
Dislike nvidia... fair enough, they have done more than enough to earn that kind of attitude towards them.

I have to confess I have been wanting to try out one from team blue for a while now, there are a few reviews with favourable results but every time I keep getting draw to the green flag...
It used to be red but with the change of name it lost its luster for me and now I just seem to be stuck in comfortable.

Im not a gamer... I play games, or a game that is modern but I want video render capability, and I know team green deliver.
You seem to have more experience with them than I do so have a different idea.

Actually I fully agree, for video rendering its no contest, nVidia has this tied up no question, Intel and AMD are both playing catchup here, same for GPU features that are used for more than just gamers nVidia has this tied up also.

its their scummy marketing segmentation practises and refusal to read the room in regards to vram that is seriously annoying, but since we are not their main market they can just throw us the dregs and shitty segmentation and there isnt a lot we can do about it other than move to AMD or Intel.

So at the end of the day the consumer space is not Nvidias main market anymore that's been taken by AI and Server space customers, us consumers are an after though to nvidia they dont need us and I fully expect them to slowly wind down their consumer GPU market as their AI market canibilises it.

AMD is pulling the same stunt with the 8 gig cards. 12 gigs should be the starting point not 8

I cant wait for 8gb standard to just die already, more and more software now want bigger Vram, its not just games wanting this but professional grade software too.

I snagged this lovely king of Maxwell GPUs - an EVGA Titan X. I absolutely didn’t need this matter-antimatter warp reaction powered beast, but it was cheap & I happened to be in the part of town where the seller was, so I decided to pick it up anyway.

Naturally, the first benchmark I ran was the downright punishing 3DMark... 2001. Funnily enough, it outscored my RX 7900 XTX by nearly 2000 points (the Radeon gets 103,670).

Perhaps one day I'll properly bottleneck the crap out of this card by pairing it with Windows XP and Windows XP compatible hardware--it is the fastest Windows XP-compatible GPU one can get, after all. For now though, I think I'll just use it as a beautiful decorative piece for the office.

If I only bought stuff, I actually needed :lol That'd be an empty shelf then.

But that's impressive stuff! I really struggle to keep my 980Ti above the 100,000 mark on my i7-9700K @ 8x5 GHz. But 3DM2K1 is pretty CPU-bound as I recall, so I wonder if it's the GPU or CPU, that pulls off most of those points 😉

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Incredibly CPU bound, in a not-much-you-can-do-about-it kind of way. Limited to a single thread? Check!
Unbelievably sensitive to core interconnect and memory latency? Check, check!
SIMD support? Sure! How about MMX, and perhaps even SSE1 on a good day.
Does it get slower with each new version of Windows? You betcha!

In a way, it's a bit like the old DOS benchmarks. Once you hit a certain level of CPU performance (or perhaps CPU architecture), it just stops scaling linearly.

Got a new laptop. Think it was a reasonable deal $750CDN which is about $540 in budweiser coupons. Which about splits the difference between my 2005 purchase and 2015 purchase... I guess I'm on a 10 year upgrade cycle 😁

It's the Acer Nitro V 15.6" with Ryzen 7535HS, the bestbuy deal only came with 8GB RAM but since other models seemed to want +200 for 16GB and +200 again for 32GB and I can put 32GB in it for less than $100, I thought it made sense to do that. Has the RTX3050... plus I guess there's a radeon buried in there somewhere but IDK if you can add it's Vulkan ooomph in together or not.

Good points, avoided faily melty Intel 13/14 gen, don't know how much longevity those patches add. Got in before end of W10 rush, got in before back to school rush next month. Supposed to be a fairly durable system and I have been having good luck with Acer built stuff.

Bad points, saturation of screen is meant to suck ass. IDK if I will notice, been on basic office screens so long, I dunno if I see full gamut on much else. Got other screens to plug in for household use if I wanna see what I'm missing.

So this is really a general purpose machine for me with gaming as a bonus, rather that trying to get supreme gaming abilities, but for the money it's probably more decent than you could put into a desktop even without spending a lot more.

Often me and the wifey get the same thing, but this time she got an Inspiron with the Ryzen 7 for the better numpad. The CPUs come within a hair of each other for total performance due to higher core speeds on the R5.

Edit: hmmm possible I got an updated panel vs the version that reviewed shitty which was a 144hz panel whereas this one seems to have 165hz panel...

EditII: deeper dive than that here, acer site sucks appears to ban you if you click certain links, wtf... https://laptopmedia.com/ca/review/acer-nitro- … able-and-noisy/

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

So I ordered a TeamGroup RAM upgrade kit, 2x16 (PC5-44800 1.1V supposed to be hynix chips) which should do me a while, which has been popular for Nitro series. I was going to wait some while for SSD upgrade, figuring they'll get bigger and faster for the same price point, but the Crucial M310 1Tb was on sale for $90CDN, so I could not resist. I coulllld squeak by longer with the 512, but I might run out quick if I start messing with video and stuff. I have two SSD holes, so it will probably get "first violin" in the PCIE 4.0 class one in a couple of weeks. Firstly though I will be doing the infant mortality burn in on all original hardware, and setting various stuff up, and familiarising, so I won't swap bits in for a few days.

Also got a ugreen 3000 in 1 hub/dock, okay 11 in 1, with the extra vid, ports, etc. ... and of course to make sure I had USB 2.0 compatibility for my 1.44 USB floppy 😉

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Tried asking the sellers, but just getting the 'chinese' answer of look in the listing/picture nr 2, which does not help at all(!) .
(if your pictures made any sense, I would not need to ask, duh ... sigh...)

I have a bracket a lot like that and installed it in the 5.25 bays in a old alr server case. I think they are more so made for mounting a rad outside your case
