the video card surely makes some difference here, and i recommend using driver 30.82 for socket7 rigs with win2k/xp.
I just tried it and my score went down to 312. This driver is probably optimised for the GeForce 2 series - not so much for the TNT2.
I think getting more than 1/3 the score of a Geforce 2 Ultra with a TNT2 M64 on a similar CPU is very respectable. The GF2 Ultra is easily 5-6 times as fast as a TNT2 M64.
That said... coupling a system like that with Windows XP is probably torture. Have you tried running the same benchmark in 98SE?
(Also, I know you just did this to see what would happen... I'm just curious if the OS makes any difference in the score. 😀 )

Yeah, that makes sense to me.

Funnily enough, it feels just right. I don't wait for the system and it doesn't wait for me.

While I don't have 98 installed on here, I did try the benchmark on Windows 2000, which runs significantly faster. With Detonator 7.97 - the driver I used in my first post - I got a score of 312. I noticed that the program only ran 17 tests instead of 21 the first time around.

maybe you are right and i just remembered it wrong in so many years. which version were you using then? maybe you can try 8.05, the last one before 1x.xx series.
i hate 1x.xx series because they can't disable vsync, and 2x.xx are mostly the same thing as 30.82, just a bit less mature(30.82 being the last in the serie actually).
SAME SPECS BUT DIFFERENT SYSTEM (Win98SE) + FAST WRITES IS ON! (1GB GOODRAM)
default clocks:
385 / 540 :
430 / 590 (maximum for my card):
15678 points seems to be the current records for this GPU with a Tualatin CPU😉
Nice tuning!
The 3 body problems cannot be solved, neither for future quantum computers, even for the remainder of the universe. The Proton 2D is circling a planet and stepping back to the quantum size in 11 dimensions.
I bought a N100 mini PC, UHD730 DEV_46D1 and tried 3dMark2001 for fun. With a fresh 21H2, latest driver 32.0.101.6460, 3dmark2001 startup hang patch, I got the following error.
swapBuffer:Present D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR
Basically you get about 5-10 seconds into the car chase bench then it errors out. Same with the dragon bench if the car is disabled. I had to go back to 32.0101.6078 to find a version that didn't crash. 6130,6299,6314,6319,6325,6332,6449,6458,6460 all had the same problem with 3dmark2001.
The N100 was comparable to a 7500T with CPUz bench, with the N100 using 12W and the 7500T using 17W under max load. 3dmark2001 performance was worse with the N100.
